-3.7 cGPA with two retakes (algebra for calculus and frontiers in astronomy both first year)
-3.8 sGPA
-strong upward gpa trend after declaring major
-3 semesters of research, no publications
-NO volunteering or work experience, one MD shadowing experience (with LOR)
-graduating from kent state university in 2014 with biology degree
-I take bodybuilding pretty seriously (first competition is this year, I started 3.5 years ago and have been obsessed since)
-I plan on doing TONS of volunteering and shadowing over the summer
-I plan on submitting my primary app in early september (due to my august 3rd mcat test date)

I would really like to go to Ohio University, but i plan on applying to around 15 DO other schools total. I've also signed up for a princeton review mcat course over the summer.

What type of mcat score should I aim for? How am I looking for entrance into DO schools in general?

Are you an Ohio resident?
Obviously your MCAT will have huge influence on where you can go..

The lack of clinical experience seems like it may raise a red flag. I don't think admissions people want to see 3 months of crammed clinical, they would rather see commitment and drawn out volunteering over a year or more. But that means pushing back your app by a year..

Other than that I would say you have good stats, again it all comes down to the MCAT. I guess it really depends how selective you want to be towards DO schools. If you will take anywhere that accepts you, then apply now. If you really really only want Ohio you can always try and apply, but I think it would be better to get strong clinical exp and submit early.

Granted, I'm only a pre-med too

As far as MCAT scores go, shoot for as high as possible. Anything 27+ would look nice.

Since you lift you should be okay.

Why are you taking the mcat so late?

If you're going to take the MCAT that late, you may as well hold off until the next year to apply. Then, you can get in more clinical experiences and fill any gaps in your application.

September is very late in terms of application submission.

you could probably get into some DO school with a 22 (seriously) (in fact, there is someone on here with a similar GPA to you and 22 that got into 4 schools). and you still have plenty of time for volunteering/shadowing, even if you do not submit until september.

i moved my graduation date up by a year (used to be 2015). probably a stupid move and maybe im being impatient, but i figure worst case i can reapply next cycle. Poor EC's are due to the fact that i havent been a long term aspiring doctor plus i was pretty lazy in high school.

anyway, assuming i can land a 28+ mcat, cram in a lot of EC's, and taking into consideration the fact that DO school application deadlines are later than MD schools, I think i have a pretty good shot... right?

get higher than a 25 on that MCAT and you will be sittin pretty. aim for a 30 though

Unless you are an Ohio resident, aim 28+ and write a kick ass secondary for why you want to go there.

If an Ohio resident you should be okay with a 26+.

If you go to OU already get your backside in Dr. Schriner's office and make yourself known.

Also, consider that volunteerism is best seen as a long-term commitment. If you are graduating early and stuffing a summer full of volunteering to check that box, schools (OU-HCOM included) may question both your motivation and maturity. Mirin GPAs though. Yeah, I'm mirin.
