I have 3 semesters left as a undergrad. I have a 3.73 Overall GPA and a 3.52 Science GPA (Which I plan to increase to at least 3.6). I have 100 hours of volunteering in my local hospitals OR and ER, 20 hours of physician shadowing (I'm starting to shadow a lot this summer) and I just started volunteering for an organization that helps disabled people play sports. I'm a member of my schools Pre-Professional Club and I'm running for president of an honor society that I am also in. I have one semester of organic research (planning to make it 2) and I have my honors thesis which I start next semester as well. I'm also taking a 2 week trip to Costa Rica where I will actually get to treat patients. I haven't taken the MCAT yet but I feel like I can get the average. My list of schools so far is:

1)Mizzou
2)St Louis University
3)Iowa
4)Texas A&M
5)Texas San Antonio
6)Tennessee-Memphis
7)Massachusetts
8)Arkansas
9)Oklahoma
10)North Dakota

Note: I'm a Missouri Resident

The only thing I'm missing is teaching/Tutoring, but perhaps your Coaching will cover that. I think you're doing fine. Keep up the good work and continue to develop your ECs as outlined.

Making a school list without an MCAT score is a bit premature. Are you aware that N Dakota is not an AMCAS school and has a completely different system for application that pretty much requires that you went to HS there or are from WICHE states or (I think) Minnesota?

Why the TX schools, and why those 2 in particular? Actually, your list doesn't make a lot of sense to me...what's your rationale for those schools (other than state schools). Prepare thoroughly for the MCAT, you don't WANT an average score!!!!!!!!!!

Even some of those state schools will want you to discuss your "state ties" on the secondary application. You have a number of highly unlikely prospects on your list. SLU and Mizzou are OK though. And maybe Iowa with a strong MCAT score (though they ask about state ties too).

Just so you know, schools such as North Dakota and Massachusetts require current state residency or require you to have been born in that state. A very slight chance would allow you to apply if you currently live in a bordering state and somehow have ties to the particular state/institution.

Almost my entire family graduated from Iowa State or the University of Iowa; I also have strong ties to Arkansas and Texas. Thanks for the info about North Dakota and Massachusetts I didn't find anything about it in the MSAR. Also I wanted to have a list made before I take the MCAT because I will be receiving the results right before I apply. I don't want to be surprised and come up with an entire list in a short period of time. I base my list on what I have accomplished already and yes it will change but the MCAT is not everything. It is just one aspect; the rest I have a pretty good idea of where I stand (good enough to start a list). It also gives me a goal to work for instead of "medical school" in general.
