Illinois applicant. I got my B.S. in bio in 2015, but was really not prepared for med school at all. Spent the better part of the next year unemployed, started volunteering at local ER, then enrolled in Northwestern's post-bac program, which I completed a couple months ago. The post-bac was four 300 level bio courses and earned me a meaningless certification, but I figured it was better than doing nothing and I did learn a lot. So my stats are:
GPA: 3.74 (probably a bit higher after the post-bac)
MCAT: 516 (128/130/130/128)
Volunteering: Just over 200 hours in small ER (still doing weekly shifts)
Shadowing: none
LORs: 3 from N'western post-bac professors, 2 of which are faculty at Feinberg, and 1 from volunteer coordinator at the hospital I volunteer at.
Research: none. I have been applying for clinical research positions but have had no luck.
I am considering applying to tutor for Kaplan, not sure if that would bolster my chances any, but I could use the money.
I intend to apply to Uniformed Services and all Illinois schools except N'western and UChicago. Where else should I be looking (particularly in the midwest)?
