Hey everyone, after a lot of time reading SDN I decided I'd go ahead and make a post regarding my chances of getting into a medical school this upcoming cycle (May 2018). I am a Junior in college and planning on applying this May, so here are my stats:
  1. 3.75 cGPA and 3.72sGPA hopefully these will be closer to 3.79- at the end of this semester. Also my GPA shows a strong upward trend with two semesters of 4.0s.
  2. 509 MCAT score (125, 127,128,129)
  3. Virginia Resident
  4. White Male, from rural southwest Va.
  5. Undergraduate at Virginia Tech
  6. Shadowing in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Intensive Care, Surgical Critical Care 130 hours total.
  7. Volunteered at a Cardiology Clinic 52 hours
  8. Hospice Volunteer 20 hours (ongoing) includes companionship and musical performances
  9. Community service through two different pre health orgs 120 hours.
  10. Peer mentor for two freshman at VT from disadvantaged backgrounds
  11. Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Introductory Biology (96 hours)
  12. Executive Position in one of the above pre health orgs
  13. Involved in two major research projects (one summer project, and my current research) 500 hours, three poster presentations, possible publication.
  14. Pending Research Internship with a biotech company this summer
  15. Member of a club sports team
  16. Recipient of a small scholarship for pre-meds from rural southwestern Va.
  17. Currently participating in HPEC process via HPA at Virginia Tech
School List: UVA, UNC chapel Hill, Pitt (reaches) VCU, EVMS, VTC, WVU, LSU New Orleans, MUSC, UAB, UC Davis, Wake Forest, Meharry Medical College.

My main concern is my MCAT but I am hoping that everything else will compensate for that. I would really appreciate any feedback regarding my competitiveness and any changes I should make to my school list.

You should change the heading for your post. "309 MCAT"

You have several state public schools on your list that accept very few non residents with your MCAT and no connection to the state including UNC, LSU, UAB, UC Davis (accepted 1 non resident 2 years ago), MUSC. Unless you are URM you can also delete Meharry. I suggest these schools with your stats:
EVMS
VCU
UVA
VTC
West Virginia
Wake Forest
George Washington
Georgetown
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
NOVA MD
California University
an new schools that may open for 2019 (Kaiser, Roseman)

Thank you, I really appreciate the input. I noticed a lot of schools on this list had median MCATs in the 510-512 range. Is my score of 509 going to put me at a significant disadvantage here or do you think I am still okay?

I was 2.77 undergrad, graduated in 2010. I went to grad school for prosthetics, and after a residency practiced until 2016 when I quit to do a premed postbac program at Meredith College where I did really well. My MCAT was 512. I had extracurriculars, but they weren't expansive. Granted I had a very uncommon amount of clinical experience as a clinician, but I got into MUSC. You'll do fine. Maybe get that MCAT score up a little, but everything else looks really good. Med schools like to see you try the MCAT again. It shows you don't settle, but you have to do better the second time.

Also (I know this is counterintuitive and kind of ironic), you might find Reddit forums on this subject to be even more encouraging.
