Hello! I'm currently a senior at a UC school, Biochemistry major, and I am going to apply this upcoming cycle.
I would really appreciate any input about which schools I should look into applying for - any feedback would be a huge help!

  1. 3.75 GPA
  2. MCAT: 527
  3. California Resident, attended a UC for undergrad
  4. Ethnicity: Asian
  5. Shadowed various specialties including surgery, ophthalmology, family medicine, neurology, pediatric oncology (added up to around 100 hours total)
  6. Clinical experiences: ~500 hours volunteering in a hospital setting (ER, ICU, oncology, etc), intern for collegiate sports medicine program
  7. Paid Research: ~500 hours of independent lab work on tissue culture work, no publications but poster presentation
  8. Worked part time job in same lab as lab helper
  9. 100+ hours of clinical research between two different studies->neurology and cardiovascular
  10. Collegiate sports- one year on a club team
  11. Leadership: volunteer coordinator for oncology volunteers in the hospital, recruitment for clinical research program
  12. Non-clinical volunteering: (total ~ 100 hours) volunteer at a senior day care facility, volunteers at a hackathon for 2 years, teach children at local schools about neurology, eye exams for preschool students

You are competitive for most schools in the country except state public schools that accept very few non residents. Apply to all your CA schools and any OOS schools that appeal to you.

Here is my current list:

Stanford
UCLA
USC
UCSF
UCSD
UC Irvine
UC Davis
UC Riverside
California Northstate
George Washington
Georgetown
Creighton
Tulane
Mayo Clinic
Univ of Chicago, Pritzer
Duke
Dartmouth
Wash U St. Louis
Yale
Columbia
Drexel
Boston University
Western Michigan

I am worried that I need more "safety" schools. I am unsure of what other schools I should consider or if any of these schools are not feasible. Thanks!

A 3.7 and 527 will get you looked at by any school in the country. I would add UPenn to the list if I were you.

You look like an excellent applicant. @Goro would tell you you're golden, and to start the list with Harvard.

With your stats (which are AWESOME by the way, nice job!), I agree with all of the above. However, I would take CA Northstate off your list unless all the controversy around the school doesn't bother you (there are so many threads on this so I won't hash out the details here). There are much better, less controversial schools you can fill that spot up with.
