Thank you very much for the info! I'm hoping my application isn't just a donationI think Yale is worth it if you have a solid rec letter from someone at the school. I was told by a someone there that they weigh internal LORs very heavily
Thank you!! I was worried about my ECs. I definitely was thinking about adding Pitt and Dartmouth so thank you so much for your suggestions.Very well done, I'd add Dartmouth, UC Irvine, OSU, U Michigan, U Maryland, Chapel Hill, Pitt, UCSD, UCSF (Though your MCAT may be a lil low for some of these, you've got great EC's).
Can anyone else back up these suggestions?
Hi SDN!
I just graduated from a USNEWS top 10 liberal arts college with a double major in neuroscience and theatre (and trust me the classes did not overlap at all haha) and am planning on applying this upcoming spring. Is there anything I can add to my application in the time before I apply to med school?
My stats:
cGPA: 3.81
sGPA: 3.79
MCAT: 512 (127, 128, 129, 128, pretty balanced but unsure if I should retake)
Ethnicity: White female
State of Residence: Connecticut but have the opportunity to move to NY
Clinical Volunteering:
350 hours as an EMT in college
500 hours volunteering as the EMT class head and running fundraisers at my college
I'm currently working as a clinical research coordinator at a different Ivy League school, coordinating clinical trials for schizophrenia with TONS of one-on-one patient time (taking vitals, giving medication, doing SCIDs and PANSS, etc.)
Research:
2 summers of rodent research (~500 hours) at an Ivy League
1 year of human subjects research at my college (EEG behavioral research)
Non-clinical volunteering:
Guest children's choir director and involved in church charity events (performed at a few different fundraisers). (~100 hours)
Shadowing:
~75 hours shadowing a pulmonologist in the ICU
Miscellaneous:
Performed in about ten theatre productions in college and was props master for about ten shows as well
Summer camp counselor for children at a theatre camp for six years (~1500 hours)
Taking piano lessons (I am very bad!)
My list so far:
UConn
UVM
Tulane
Emory
Tufts
Temple
NYU
Mt Sinai
EVMS
GW
Yale (is it worth it to apply if I am affiliated with the school? I know a huge reach)
BU
Creighton
USC
Wake Forest
UMiami
Albert Einstein
Jefferson
Quinnipiac
Rosalind Franklin
Cornell (Both my parents were here for medical school idk if that matters at all but I would love to be in NY)
NYMC
I know my non-clinical volunteering can certainly be improved. Should I add anything else to my application in my two gap years? How does my list look?
Thank you in advance!!
Here's a more realistic list:
Duke (maybe)
U VM
Pitt
Mayo
Miami
St. Louis
Albany
Albert Einstein
Rochester
Rush
Rosy Franklin
BU
MCW
Hofstra
NYMC
VCU
EVMS
Wake Forest

Drexel
Creighton
George Washington
Georgetown
Emory
USC/Keck
Tulane
Dartmouth
Loyola
Netter
Oakland-B
U CONN
All SUNYs
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)
Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, or LUCOM, for different reasons
That's a challenging question. I'm walking the dog right now and so best to check MSAR online and compare in-state vs. Out of state matriculation ratesHi Goro, thank you so much and I will definitely add/amend! In your professional opinion, is it better to remain in residency in CT or establish residency in NY? My immediate family is split between the states. Thanks!!
