Hey guys! I have not posted on Student Doctor Network for a very long time and just got my MCAT scores back (4/6 date) and was wondering about your guys' opinions on whether I have a chance at any MD schools with my statistics (like maybe any input on my chances, does not really have to be a school list).
Please let me say a preemptive thank you for taking the time to read through this probably really badly structured post and for helping a really stressed premed out!
- Currently a Junior in Undergraduate at a UC school
- State of Residence: CA
- Ethnicity: Indian (1st generation college student)
- Unsure about school list as of now since I am not sure of my chances at any MD school
- cGPA is 3.82 with a upward trend (got a lot of Bs during Freshman year but maintained As, A-s since that time throughout all my subsequent quarters)
- MCAT score: 510 - 130/124/129/127, CARS was a rip and a half on this test :'(! My CARS practice scores were always super random and varied a lot....
- Currently doing research about genomic networks and doing wet lab things(~450 hours). No publication yet, but likely to have one during my senior year (writing the manuscript). Also I had previously done research on C. Elegans and response behavior (~300 hours) that resulted in 2 posters.
- A lot of clinical volunteering at my school's hospital (~600 hours) between 2 programs that I did. One was working on the hospital floors and assisting the staff with duties while the other one deals with stroke treatment and helping MDs in the ER with stroke codes and enlisting qualified patients in stroke research trials.
- I have about ~50 hours of shadowing ER doctors and neurologists at my school's hospital (a lot of different doctors) and ~50 hours of shadowing a primary physician back in my home town.
- For my nonclinical volunteering, I am apart of the Habitat for Humanity club at my school (~150 hours) and also help with senior citizen activities at a temple, also got a letter of recommendation from the activities coordinator at the temple (~200 hours throughout college). Other than that, I coached a youth basketball team in my home town for a summer (~30 hours).
- For my extracurricular activities, I am apart of a blog as a writer that posts articles about healthy living and taking complex medical information and making it easily digested for the average Joe. I play IM basketball at my school as well.
