So I have a 3.89 cGPA 3.91sGPA and 22/22/19 on my DAT.
Extracurriculars: Shadowing, research, volunteering

I applied mid september (i guess it was late) and I only applied stonybrook, nyu, columbia, buffallo, umdnj.

my interviews were all post dec 1.

So far no acceptances and classes are almost completely full.

I can't believe how ****ED I got....

Any advice?

don't know what to tell you, you might want to diversify your application pool next time, but I wouldn't loose hope just yet, classes aren't "almost" full, you should still have a pretty good chance at a few schools.

However, I do know someone who had about what you have (as far as stats) and ended up going to PA school because he was just horrible at interviewing...how did your interviews go?

That's tough man, but you could still hear back. You submitted pretty late in the process so that's definitely part of the problem. If you had these stats and submitted your application as early as possible you definitely would have gotten into a few of those schools. I have a friend who decided to apply to dental school late and is having similar issues. Just hang in there.

Not surprised if you took the MCAT, applied really really late in September, and only applied to so few schools.

Apply again in June, your stats are good so you should be alright, apply to 10-12 schools next time though.

where did you get interviews what are the dates for them?

I took the MCAT (4 times in fact; got a 27👎) and am currently a first year allopathic medical school student. Most dental schools will not reject or discard you just b/c you wanted to be or are a medical student. I just got accepted into my state dental school early in the cycle (applied in October at that) and plan on transferring next semester for my own personal reasons. IMO, I believe the fact that I'm doing well in medical school proved to them I could handle dental school coursework and will be one of their top students. Trust me though, in my interview I had to do some explaining why i am choosing dentistry over medicine for my career. DO NOT LIE in your app, if you took the MCAT, check the little box that says you took it. You applied to really competitive schools, so keep your head up. I am confident that you will be a dental student if not the c/o 2014, def the class of 2015.

If you applied earlier you would have gotten in. Where did you graduate from?

Are you almost done with your B.S.? How many heavy-load classes do you take for each semester? Do you work while going to school? Do you have any Ws on your transcript? Do you have any research experience? How many hours (total) did you spend for shadowing etc.?

its not your stats or dat scores why you have no acceptances. its the fact in how late you applied! Now you have to wait on the schools that you did interview at and hope that spots become available.

Your lack of success, so far, is unlikely to be related to applying "late". It appears plausible that your ambivalence was crystal clear and that you were not too convincing about the quick change of heart from med to dent. Your posts show having shadowed physicians and not much on the dental side.

I know how you feel. I have 3.91 overall gpa and 4.0 science GPA. 4.0 graduate GPA with a Master's degree on it's way.
AA/TS/PAT = 20/20/23. (Your dat score is better than mine.)
I haven't got a single acceptance or offered an interview pre-december. I have my first interview next month and another one a week after the first one. And THAT'S IT!

My app got mailed on July 31 so I'm assuming it's because I applied late. If not that then probably my DAT score. oh well.. All I can do now is pray.

What?? Just try to apply earlier next time. Although, I do not think July 31 is that late.

LOL..Since when did getting accepted and attending an allopathic medical school mean you will be a top student in DS.

Which allopathic medical schools accept a 27 MCAT.. Ross University? St. George's?

j/k 😛 congrats on getting into dental school! good choice, med school sucks.

A score of a 27 is competitive for my state medical schools. It's not a knock out score, but was enough to get me into the door of an U.S. allopathic medical school.
Anyways, what in your opinion is the hardest class in dental school (and please to don't say gross like everyone else)? Thanks.

Well, it is Gross... nothing else comes close... though this semester it is probably Physiology or Medicine, and upperclassmen say that in the summer it's Neuroscience, and in the fall Medicine II is the hardest. Operative is hard for people who have bad hand skills, lucky for me that is not the case hehe.

there is no box to check if u did the MCAT FYI.

if your numbers are batting a thousand and you strike out and dont get in after a few interviews....it was you. that's the only thing it could be! work on the interview skillz.

dude J, where do you come up with all these quotes and analogies lol!!!👍👍

Yes there is. It asks if you ever taken any other admissions test for other graduate programs (i.e., MCAT).

No there's not. Unless u're talking about the OPTIONAL survey for the registration of the DAT.

They do ask you if you've taken the MCAT on AADSAS as far as I remember, at least they did last year. It's certainly possible that they don't ask that question anymore starting this year, I haven't seen this year's AADSAS.

AADSAS does not ask if you have taken other professional tests. At least they did not this year.

What they do ask is: Have you previously, or are you currently applying to a health profession school other than dental school?

Hmm im pretty sure I asked the same question before I applied this past cycle... cuz i was freaking out about the same thing 😵. (I also took the MCAT before deciding on dentistry). It wasn't just this forum.. i also asked my prehealth adviser in school... so im pretty sure the last 2 years they haven't asked that question. I think AADSAS only ask if we applied to any other professional schools.. and what happened there.

IMO, it does not matter if you attempted to attend or are currently attending another health sciences professional program unless you leave the institute under sour conditions (such as academic dishonesty). Many people decide to switch careers in their 20's and even their 30's for whatever personal reasons I hope they state within their PS/interview and dental admission committees understand that.
I was wrong when I said AADSAS asks if you have taken another professional admissions test, it was the DAT survey (sorry). But I do remember the app asking if I've ever or attempted to attend another professional institute.
BTW, good luck during this cycle.

Guess you should pushed more for that 4.0🙄

Only kidding... If you don't get in this time, apply in early june next cycle and set up a few practice interviews.

Good Luck👍

Agree, Mid Sept application is not late. There are alot of factors that can not be predicted about the application process. I would suggest to continue showing interest in the field and maybe increase the number of schools you apply as others mentioned. Make sure your statement is original and in my opinion as well as several faculty that it shows a clinical experience describing what makes you want to choose the profession. I was accepted into 3 schools with a 2.9 GPA and 20 DAT. My application was submitted Sept 2nd. LOR can hurt if they are general and do not describe your passion and capability of handling the workload. That is why it is better to do a Committee letter as it is more objective usually giving class ranks plus several professor comments including your dedication in the school programs and extracurricular activities. GPA in some sense is a flawed way to measure how good of a student one is because the strength of courses vary from school to school. Dental Admission have goals to keep improving their statistics except for State Schools and schools like ASDOH which their main emphasis is in community service especially working with Public Health Clinics. State Schools meet a quota and then usually the remaining spots go to highly qualified out of staters usually with some kind of ties with the University etc.

Keep your head up and don't get discouraged! Look for a plan B such as a Post Bac or better yet a 1 year Masters or 2 year Research base Masters. But make sure you don't expect that if you go to a school for a Masters that you automatically will get into that Dental School program. If classes are equal in srength and you rock it then its definitely a plus but not a guarantee. Some schools do guarantee and interview based on how well you do in the masters but check with them.

Good Luck

It most certainly does matter, haha. All four interviews I attended, one of the primary questions was "What made you switch over from medicine to dentistry?" "Why didn't you cancel your application?" etc etc

I got waitlisted by my undergraduate school with a 22/22/20 and a 3.9+...apparently my interview didn't go as well as I had hoped...I did get into Case though and just found out this week so be patient as you should at the very least get on a waitlist.

Mid Sept application is not late.

That is not true. Wayne, you may have gotten accepted after applying in September, and a lot of people have applied in September and been accepted, but it is a late application, and your chances at acceptance is greatly diminished to most schools. There are certainly schools that are forgiving to late applicants (Tufts being one of them), but your odds of getting an interview (and thus, an acceptance) will be reduced at most schools if you apply late, especially public schools. Mid-September is really late, many schools have already reviewed several batches of applicants and extended multiple rounds of interview by then.

Agreed, applying in September IS late. Completing application by September is NOT too late.
