I've started compiling a list of schools to apply to this cycle, but am still having a hard time piecing together info. from MSAR and opinions about the schools. I know most of you have a general idea of which schools to avoid. I want to focus on state schools, but don't want to risk putting all of my eggs in one basket. Note: I haven't taken the MCAT, yet. I know its a poor idea to assume a score, but I wont know until around the time I will be applying. From what I can tell, I project that I will make around 508-512, lets assume 508.
3.91 cGPA; 3.98sGPA; 508
Biology with Chem. minor
Louisiana Resident
European Immigrant - English as a second language - very unique background
150 hours shadowing
100 hours clinical experience - through prior nursing major
30 hours of health drive volunteering - physicals & disease prevention/early detection education
50 hours - volunteering = inpatient physical rehab. center
20 hours - assisted with elementary school events
1.5 years of micro related research - 1 poster; 2 presentations
Will spend summer volunteering at undeserved area volunteer clinic and the physical rehab. center.
Leadership (may be too old?) - Managed a restaurant last two years of high school - intense hours, all while keeping close to a 4.0 GPA.
No official employment during UG- I repaired automobiles on the side when I had the chance and time.
If it matters: $10,000 scholarship; Phi Kappa Phi honor society member, Presidents list almost every semester.
I know I don't have the greatest ECs; unfortunately, I had to learn about the Pre-med process along the way. I wanted to stay instate, or near home. What are my chances to at southern schools (LA, TX, AR, OK, MS, AL, MO, TN)? Do I need to get the concept of staying near home out of my head and apply elsewhere? If so, suggestions?
Thank you!
