hey all,
I completed apps at 3 schools: md, penn and columbia and have interviews scheduled for all three. my friend recently was freaking me out about how low that number was. I know the acceptance from interview rates roughly and therefore feel fairly safe. I'm really only interested in these 3. necessary to apply to more? opinions welcome!

ps-i also applied to UCLA but wanted to save the 60$ app fee so i have not yet submitted the secondary

You are 3 for 3.
Your friend doesn't know what they are talking about or they don't know how many schools you applied to.

I think you shouldn't apply to more if money is tight.

the problem is he is pre-med, and i think med schools accept a lower number from interviews than dent. so naturally he is scared for me. i keep telling him the stats for acceptance but he still isn't convinced i am going to get into dschool. i interact well with people so i don't really know why. i need reassurance from other pre-dents so this doesn't continue to freak me out.

Ahhh from what I understand medical school applications are a completely different ballgame. Pre-meds apply to 40+ schools through AAMCAS and get 5 or 6 interviews (http://www.mdapplicants.com/profile.php?id=19291).

I personally think you're fine because you've got a 100% interview rate (for complete applications) and because your GPA and DAT are stellar. But if you feel uncomfortable, apply to more...no point risking your future.

Hey Vivi,

I'm also in the same position as you. I only applied to the three Texas schools (resident) and have interviews at all 3 as well.

I'm somewhat apprehensive about the limited number of schools I applied to as well especially when everyone on SDN seems to have the mindset that "if you apply to 15+ schools you'll be fine". The pessimist in me thinks that I would kick myself if I didn't get in because I applied to such a limited number of schools, but realistically I think there are more important factors in gaining acceptances than the amount of schools a person applies to.

Generic response about GPA, DAT, ECs aside I think it ultimately cones down to your personal decision. If you feel secure with your 3 then don't doubt yourself and just wait until December 1st for those acceptances to roll in. (which seriously feels like an eternity...) however, if by applying to a few more schools as a sort of safety net will help you sleep better at night then I say go for it as long as funds aren't too tight.

Good luck this cycle!

Apply to a school that has a 90% chance of admissions after interview, like Case Western. So when you get an interview, you're pretty much in. This can relieve a lot of stress and uncertainty.

From your stats, you should be fine without applying to more though. Kill the interviews you currently have, and you will be in the enviable position of being accepted to multiple schools.

Seconded. Don't be a dunce at your interview and you'll be fine! KILLER stats btw.

Maryland will take you on Dec 1st 😀

thanks for the replies everyone!

i have my first interview this friday, so i'll assess the situation based upon how the interview goes. if i feel like it went smoothly then i probably won't feel the pressure to add more schools but we will see!

You have 3 pre-December interviews at great schools and your stats are AMAZING! You have nothing to be worried about, as long as your interviews go smoothly. I know a lot of pre-meds apply to 20+ schools, and therefore may receive many more interviews. My advice: If you want to spend the extra $$ you could most definitely land other interviews with your stats, however they might be after December and your chance for acceptance to those schools may be reduced. Anyway, good luck on your interviews I have an interview at Columbia as well :xf:! Hope to see you there!
