ECs;
~55 hrs of hospital volunteering
~100 hrs miscellaneous volunteering (grouping rather than explaining it all on here)
- 3rd author on a poster presentation for International Dialysis Conference
- accepted to present at Canadian national epidemiology conference
- 45 hours shadowing physician
- 4 months of research, no publication, just a volunteer for this
- team sports, refereeing hockey
- learning to play piano
- work experiences (worked at a bank as CEOs executive assistant, graphic designer for another place)
- Canadian/US dual citizen, interested in both DO and MD, would like to have the option to return to canada if i so choose.

Looking for any input as to which schools I should apply to both MD and DO, what areas I need to improve, should i retake the MCAT (wrote in august 2010) any input is helpful

You should get some more clinical experience and some shadowing.

Don't re-take the MCAT, unless you have a score under 8 in any section.

Do you have state residency in any US state?

@theseeker4 thanks for the response!

I don't have residency in any state which is an issue for the public schools,

i have interviewed for a hemo dialysis tech position and am hopeful that will increase my clinical experiences,

any thoughts on schools i should apply to?

i applied this cycle with very similar stats. I agree that you definitely need more ECs, when you have average numbers you have to make up for it with above average ECs. i was fortunate enough to get 3 interviews this cycle. my best advice to you is apply early and start getting more volunteering NOW.

could really use some help here
Go through the MSAR and look through the info on the various schools. Eliminate any schools which do not accept OOS. Next, unless you are a rock star, eliminate all public California schools. From there, look at the stats ranges for the remaining schools and see which you fit in well with based on your current stats, thus whittling down the possible schools pile even further. Finally, examine the culture/mission/location information about the schools and select those that you would be comfortable with. Once your initial list is created, post it here and people will give further feedback regarding things you may have overlooked.

Any of these seem ridiculous or am i missing some that should be here?
thanks for the help guys!

Your list is good. I would suggest taking out either George Washington or Boston University. They get a lot of applications each year, so they are really picky with regards to what kind of applicant they want. Maybe add a school like Rosalind Franklin or Wright medical school if you are interested in schools in Illinois or Ohio.

I would add Toledo and maybe Wright State to the list.
