Hey everybody! I've got a fantastic score, but a really weird score split, and I'm just wondering what my chances are.

PS: 14
VR: 5 !!!
BS: 14

I barely even remember taking the test, except for freaking out at one point when the proctor told me to stop flicking my pen. I suffer from a lot of test anxiety.

Anyway, I'm just trying to get into local state schools and I'm curious how much they look at each individual section score.

Thanks!

That VR 5 will be lethal for Md schools, and harmful for many DO schools. You'd be autorejected at mine, despite the excellent MCAT score. This is one of the perversities of the MCAT VR sections, alas.

If you suffer from test anxiety, you had better get that fixed before even thinking about medical school. We're addicted to high-stakes standardized tests. Lots of them.

I think you can retake and get a stellar score. Was the VR score similar to your practice VR scores?

Unfortunately, you probably need to retake(assuming the 5 was a fluke). That means 2015 MCAT. Don't waste a whole application cycle being auto-rejected because of one subscore.

What was your verbal average on practice exams?

I was getting around 8-10 on the practice verbals. So, what I'm getting from this is that they DO see the score split? Not just the score as a whole?

We see everything.
What is your state of residence?

I have heard that there are some schools that don't auto screen based on subscores but I'm not sure which schools and there probably aren't many. I have also heard that most schools screen for 6 and below in each section, so that 5 will get you auto screened out.

Your ps and bs scores are phenomenal though so I think you could definitely improve your VR

Yep, that 5 needs to be fixed. Generally, 7 is circling the dumpster fire for MD. All your other numbers look fantastic, however.

Is English your second language? ESL people often have a lot of difficulty with VR despite stellar PS and BS scores.
