37 MCAT, 3.89 cGPA, 3.88sGPA, Do I need to do a SMP?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah you need to do an SMP or else try to retake classes you got low grades in and apply to DO schools.

Wow u sud be in your 2nd/3rd year medical school now, why havent you applied, or did u applied and didnt get in yet, cos i think that's a really nice stats to work with or What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't decide to go to med school until after I graduated... So I applied with the 31 (didn't have any clinical volunteering), applied to 10 schools, got three interviews and all rejected post interview. So, I went and got some clinical volunteering and improved my MCAT, but now am worried that my course work will be viewed as too old.

This is such a difficult process, I just want to get in somewhere in the US...

Hi Hyunsoo,

I took three years off after medical school: I did Teach for America for two years and was a software engineer for one. I also did an NIH summer internship during my time off.

Let me just say that research medical schools will *love* your two years of research, and with your 37Q + 3.85+ GPA, you will likely have your choice of medical school.

FWIW: I had 37Q/3.68 GPA. Schools love students who take time off.

An elementary school in my area is looking for a noon duty. Given your stats, I think that this line of work is right up your alley. Forget medical school.

You are part of the reason SDN makes me feel terrible about myself. You have nearly perfect cGPA and sGPA and ridiculous MCATS. Yet you aren't smart enough to realize what it takes to get into med school. Someone please remove this thread before I kill myself.
