I applied during the 2023-2024 cycle and ended up not getting in. I got 1 interview from a school in Arizona and was then ultimately rejected. At this point, I took the MCAT 3 times 502 --> 510 --> 507 (I know I shouldn't have taken the third attempt - a friend of mine passed away during that time and I wasn't doing well mental-health wise). I have a 3.7 cumulative GPA and 3.62 science GPA from a t-10 undergrad as a biology major.

After not getting in last cycle, I decided to apply to SMPs like Rosalind Franklin's BMS and NYMC's AMP. I got accepted into both of these programs. Rosalind Franklin's BMS is non-binding and pretty much guarantees acceptance if you make above a 3.0 GPA in their program. NYMC's AMP offers a binding linkage to their SOM if you make above a 3.4 GPA in their program. Rosalind Franklin's seems easier because you are only taking classes with other master's students, whereas you take classes with medical students for NYMC's program. However, I like NYMC's program more due to proximity to NYC, better match list, and opportunities to do clinical rotations in NYC (assuming I would matriculate into their SOM afterwards). The only thing I don't like about NYMC's program is that it's binding. I was completely fine with this until I received my newest MCAT score, in which I got a 516. I am an ORM from California, so ideally I would like to attend a medical school in California. On the other hand, I understand that it is my 4th MCAT attempt so I don't know how schools will view my stats. Do you think I should proceed with NYMC's binding agreement, go with Rosalind's since its not binding, or do neither? Do I have a shot of getting into another "better" or even an in-state school? Also, I would have to pay the full COA for the SMP and medical school using loans, so ideally I would want to save as much money as possible. Does anyone have suggestions on SMP's that have strong linkages to their medical schools without it being binding? Do I even need to do an SMP?

Here is some more info about me:

CA, ORM, 2 gap years (about to enter third)
3.7 cumulative GPA, 3.62 science GPA, t-10 undergrad, biology major
MCAT - 502, 510, 507, 516
Clinical experience - 2400 hours as full-time scribe
Research experience - 1500 hours, 3 publications, honors thesis
Volunteer experience - 300 hours of hospital volunteering, 80 hours at church's food pantry, 60 hours at free eye clinic, 60 hours at women's shelter

Thank you so much!!

I know it might feel impossible but believe me you don't want to do an SMP unless you have to do it. Your GPA is solid, your current MCAT is solid, it is wiser to spend your money on people reviewing your app/essays/mock interviewing. Dedicate your time and energy to really revamp your app before taking $50k+ debt & risking your GPA in a program you don't need to be in.

NYMC estimates it will cost $74,744 to complete the program. Save your money and focus on a re-app. Use every resource into this re-app before committing to this serious undertaking of an SMP (you don't need)
