Hello Everyone,

I'll try to keep this brief.

cGPA: 3.94
sGPA: 3.98
MCAT: 39

University of Pitt Undergrad
Nursing Major
Currently working as an RN

Not great research experience, but ~500 hours in Molecular Genetics Lab
Oodles of clinical experience

School List:
1. Duke
2. UNC
3. Virginia
4. Virginia Tech
5. Miami Miller
6. UCLA David Geffen
7. Vanderbilt
8. Penn
9. University of Pittsburgh

I realize it is a short list, but this is an expensive process, so I wanted to keep it down. What do you think my chances are? Should I be applying to more schools? I would hate to have to reapply simply because I was trying to pinch pennies.

Thank you everyone and good luck with your own applications!

Stats are great, tons of clinical experience as a nurse.

Your biggest obstacle is probably going to be how you portray your motivations on why MD. Specifically, why MD>nursing. If you can nail that in your primary/secondaries, I think you'll receive lots of love all around.

Thanks for your response. My pre-med adviser was of the same opinion, so I tried to address the MD>nursing thing in my personal statement. Looking around SDN I just saw that my list was significantly shorter than most and was wondering about the necessity of adding some more schools. I could add a few more in state programs, I just don't think I would like to go to any others. The flip side being that I WOULD like to go SOMEWHERE.

What about applying to your state school?
