So this will be my third year applying..I just found this forum online and Im so glad! I wish had known abt this 3 years ago..
I know my GPA isnt that great..its almost a 3.0 but my Pcat scores are in the 94th percentile..i have 5 years of pharmacy experience (i am the sr tech), good recommendation letters.. i always get waitlisted..currently on the waiting list at uic..but apparently this year the list hasnt moved at all..so i have no hope..coz school starts aug 28th!
Am i cursed or is something really wrong?? :(
Any advice would be appreciated..wht schools to apply to..when to apply
THANKS !!!

Your stat seems fine since you got high score on PCAT. Did you apply only hard schools?

Def try to apply to more schools... that aren't so competitive??? You know, those with not thousands and thousands of applicants each year. Perhaps retake more classes if possible... and get a BS/BA (if you dont have it). I hope 3rd times the charm. Goodluck!

You probably know this already but apply early.. and did you call your schools and ask why you were only waitlisted?

Did you have everyone and your grandma read your PS and supplemental essays to make sure they were good to go?

Surely you'll get in this time! :luck: ..

Whatever it is you're doing...it's not working. Having settled that, what is it that you want out of a PharmD? If your intention is to work in retail and nothing else then you should be applying to every private school from coast to coast and one of them will take you as you are. If you plan on doing something other then filling viagra and vicodin then it becomes a bit more tricky.
Scenerio #1: You want to pursue something in pharmaceuticals. Well, you've spent 3 years twiddling your thumbs, so you might as well spend an additional two years. In that two years, you should obtain a master's degree in one of the sciences...ie. bio, chem., etc. Getting a Master's will give you two things...A) the obvious, a master's and B) higher overall GPA. Both will work in your favor. Concurrently, do volunteer work and shadowing if you get an opportunity. I would recommend the Red Cross, great organization and looked upon very well by the health care field.
Scenerio #2: You hate the science aspect but love business. Scratch the MS and go for the MBA. In addition, do all the things mentioned in scenerio #1.

I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, but spending three years and not getting anywhere is not something that will perk up the interest of any admissions committee.
My final piece of advice before I sign off is: GET ACTIVE IN YOUR LIFE. You have been rejected....great....you should be knocking on some doors to find out WHY? What is it that you have to do that will make you a better candidate for next year. Ask for it straight and make a list of everything that the admissions people want you to correct and act on it. Don't just sit back and expect that another year of experience in the pharmacy will be enough to get you in. Those days are long gone....competetion for a great paying job is way too tough. Good luck and hopefully we'll see you in the ranks.
