3rd year faculty bitches

do they exists? how often? how do you deal with them?

i am talkin about those strict anal as hell faculties whose goal in life is to give students a hard time. i am a first year and know of one for FP who is in charge of some 1-2 yrs curriculum and she is such a beetch. would there be a way to avoid her (maybe she is teaching a core rotation), or are they just very common anyway?

There was one faculty member who threw a student out of the OR for a misunderstanding.

The funny thing was the he got into trouble for it.

The faculty members at my school are pretty nice. If they're not and we complain, they seriously get into trouble for it. Gotta love it!

I feel I am asking a legitimate question about how MANY (or common) and how to deal with strict anal inconsiderate pompous attendings. The most immature response i have seen recently is the one you just posted. i am MS1 but I do have clinical exposure with faculty that i need to deal with, and at least i'm trying to learn how, that's more mature than your condescending outlook of me and MS1s. maybe it is the time of the month.

i didnt think the ethical profession of medicine has that many "jerky" "jerks," but as apparent by this post, they are out there.

In case it managed to escape you in at least 20+ years of life, jerks come in both sexes, all shapes and sizes, and definitely, you will not escape them in the medical field.

In general, most faculty and residents are pretty fair and decent to work with, but when the occasional one comes along that is not, either deal with them as little as possible or if they are outright abusive, do something about it.

Or, follow in the footsteps of most of the SDNer's who have stumbled upon this thread and not posted (as indicated in the low post:view ratio)- IGNORE IT.

you can nicely ask to clarify the question instead of making swift conclusions and talking mess "cleopatra." just hope you wont decide to be a faculty.

Your condescending attitude towards women is reflected in the above statement, as well as your original post, regardless of how you think you should be coming across. The posters here are trying to call attention to an attitude which may be percieved as anti-female by faculty, and may be contributing to the treatment you are getting. Your defensiveness just underscores this point. The best way I've found to deal with hard-a$$ faculty is to accept the criticism they give, with a grain of salt if necessary, and try to improve myself. The toughest faculty can shape the best physicians, but you have to be willing to accept responsibility for your shortcomings.

Beetches are very common when you have an attitude such as yours. I think the air up there (what are you? over 7ft?) has such little oxygen that your brain has been seriously deprived. I would recommend an oxygen mask, not only to prevent further anoxic brain injury, but also to curtail you from voicing your thoughts on female medical professionals.

this is a waste of my time. you misunderstood what i was trying to say and wont listen, that's fine. i am not condescending towards women, i am straight from SF. as far as all my friends, classmates, acquaintances know me, i'm as liberal/affirmative as you can get, only if you know me as a real person. quick to judge from one or two short posts arent enough for you to tell me to seek professional help. i would come with some defensive and perhaps offensive response for you neurogirl but i'm not going to waste my time. yo go ahead and continue to make judgements on me with these short internet posts.

To comment on the original post on how to deal with personality clashes:

Just be professional, appropriately humorous, and give yourself an incentive to work hard, even if it's for spite.

Above all, all things will pass. Enjoy the fact that your encounter with the dissonant staff is temporary. Sooner or later, you'll meet doctors of any gender who are compassionate, intelligent, inspiring to be around, and make you laugh your ass off.

Everyone has some real jerks for attendings. As for me, I usually have a smile on my face and I'm not shy about trying to enjoy my day. I've found these kind of staff become more intimidating if you allow yourself to be intimidated. Alternatively, the courage to appropriately but unexpectedly joke around disarms a lot of people. Of course, you've got to be solid as student before you do or you'll look like a class clown.
