3rd year schedules at other schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
At AZPod, the first portion of our 3rd year is just classwork. We start rotations the first week in October. In October we have 2 weeks of a basic skills rotation and 2 weeks of a radiology "rotation" which is at the school. Starting in November, we are out doing clinical rotations and done with classwork. We do have some exams every month or two, but no more classwork. So, in less than 2 weeks, I will be in a podiatry office and will be finished with classwork. 😀 Yes, I am excited!

Sorry if this is slightly off topic but I'm curious. How many months of Podiatry clerkships do you guys have before interviews?

At Temple, in the Fall Semester (June to December), there is clinic from 9 am to 12 noon/12:30 PM. Then from 1 PM to as late as 5 or 6 PM there are classes. Then from January to May (Spring Semester), there are clinical rotations only.

You could have up to 6, I guess. During your 3rd year you get 2 months of electives and you can choose a clerkship as one of the 3rd year electives. During the 4th year, there are 4 scheduled clerkships, a 6 month CORE rotation, a non-podiatry month, and a vacation month (which could be used as a clerkship as well, if you wanted). Some people have a clerkship scheduled after CRIPS, but during the 4th year, we have a total of 4 scheduled. So the most you could have is 1 during the 3rd year + the 4 scheduled + using your vacation month as a clerkship = 6. I only know of 1 person in my class who is planning on using the vacation month as a clerkship, and maybe 2 people who are doing a 3rd year elective clerkship, so for most of my class, we will have 4.

Personally, not being in my 4th year yet, but applying for clerkships in a few weeks, I wish we had more clerkship months. Especially with the number of residency spots being around the same as the number of graduating students, I think spending time at a residency you really want is going to be very important. Plus, having to narrow it down to my 4 top choices is hard to do.

at ohio, our 3rd year goes from june to february. we attend classes on tuesdays and thursdays from 8-3. we have one month clinical rotations that can include clinic, radio, surgical skills & surgery, history and physical (where we work in an ER ambulatory clinic i believe) & simulated patients that are on M, W,F. We start clerkships in march.

Just out of curiosity, do you know if that will be changing next year when the AACPM adopts a national clerkship calendar? I know they are making the monthly start and end dates uniform, but I don't know if they are having all the schools start at the same time.

yea, I knew they were adopting the uniform schedule, but I know we are still starting in march, b/c we were told we could possibly go from march 2011 to february 2012 on clerkships (based on each person's individual schedule). I am planning my schedule now and planning to go out in march.

What are your 3rd year schedules? Do you have classes? Barry has classes all day tues and thursday. Just wondering.

I think at Western we finish all of our classes by the beginning of May. A few weeks off for boards and then we are hospital based for the next 2 years (rotations and externships).

We will be rotating at 4 core hospitals in our 3rd year (Arrowhead, Downey, UCLA/Olive View, and VA Los Angeles) with smaller month-long visits to Riverside, Rancho Specialty, and our own Foot & Ankle Center.

We find out what core hospital we will be based out of within the next few weeks.

Excited to be done classes soon!!
