Hey everyone,

I am an M3 and in a few months I will be doing surgery rotation. the department gives us the option to choose 2 specialties to spend each month with, and general surgery is not a required one. I am very interested in applying to ortho and was wondering if the program directors want applicant to have experience in general surgery during their 3rd year.

thanks

I'm just a 4th year so I can't say I know for certain, but I highly doubt it. Every surgery rotation across medical schools is completely different so there's no way they can expect a standardized surgery experience. All they're going to care about is that you got Honors in the rotation.

If you're interested in Ortho though and you have an option to rotate in Ortho your third year, absolutely do it.
