4.0/MCAT TBD/School List suggestions?

You will not be accepted into a medical school this year, and I figure you're not appplying anyway. But it's way too early to start talking about a school list.

🙁

I am hoping to apply next cycle. Took MCAT this summer. Will be posting the results August 6th. Hopefully I get 36+
For now, does anyone have anything they'd like to see me do?

Keep in mind I'm already busy with my own project at the Virology lab and I have been elected to a leadership position in student senate so I will be really busy with that too!

Unless you're an illinois resident, take Illinois off that list. They have an extremely high OOS tuition.

I'm reading your wall of text right, you have a 39 and a 4.0, and you're african american?

Apply anywhere you damn well want to. The HBCs and your state schools will be your safeties. But seriously, apply anywhere you want to.

Are you kidding me? With those stats and story you could walk right into pretty much anywhere. Even if you applied this year you'll still get in. You may not have the appropriate research background for Harvard or other major research schools, but aside from the very top 2 or 3 schools you'll get an interview anywhere you apply and as long as you don't bomb it you'll get accepted. Honestly you'd very likely get into the top schools also, your stats are best of the best, it seems that you've had a pretty tough life-- making your scores even better. If you want to apply this year, do it and you will be successful at any of those mid tiers for sure, and very likely all of those schools. It's true that schools do rolling admissions, it's true that it's best to apply early, but if you apply by the end of August you won't be THAT late and again your application is top notch, just go for it!

If money is important for the OP and they have reliable job for the gap year, waiting could save them a LOT of money in the long term in terms of being able to build up savings and more easily pay for interviews (not need to borrow or put on credit cards). Plus, it'll maximize the financial offers from schools to apply early, and improve the applications even more to not be rushed.

I agree that the OP could probably get in this year with good options but there are valid reasons for waiting, too.

So you have an MCAT and GPA in the 99th percentile, you're a URM and SES disadvantaged... yeah go wherever you feel like, you'll get a huge scholarship.
