Taking the DAT on Saturday, and like many left QR till the end. :smack: What is the most high yield thing I can do right now to prepare to do decent on this section? Do we have to memorize the conversion factors (1ft = 12 in) or are they given? I'm in the processes of doing my final review of sciences and PAT and will throw QR in there as well. ~3 hours a day of prep I can dedicate to it. What do you guys/gals think?

Do several Crack DAT MATH tests and practice on timing, skip all word problems and try to get all non-word problems correct. Look at the solutions and figure out the concepts. Note that Crack DAT Math has about ~3 errors per test.

Next take Top Score / Achiever / Kaplan practice tests and look at the solutions and figure out the concepts. Learn from every problem especially the non-word problems. However, don't totally ignore the word problems either.

Memorize these basic conversions, anything more complicated will be give on the test I presume.

16 ounces = 1 pound
2000 pounds = 1 ton
1 kg = 2.2 pounds

1 cup = 8 ounces
16 ounces = 1 pint
2 pints = 1 quart
4 quarts = 1 gallon
1 liter = 0.26 gallon (might not need to know)

12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard
3.3 feet = 1 meter
5280 feet = 1 mile
1 km = .62 mile (might not need to know)
1609.3 meters = 1 mile (might not need to know)

You could also look at my posts in this thread for some brief trig notes:

If Im feeling nice I might post the rest of my math notes.

do all the kaplan course QR subject tests and you'll be set.

Who are you kidding. Just doing Kaplan is never enough. Kaplan is like reading a Dr. Suess book, its way to easy and not DAT level. Especially for math, you want to do as many problems from as many different sources as possible.

well it all depends on ur math background and how fast you work. I really think u'll be fine though, especially with 3 hrs per day...that's all i really did and got a 17...which isn't fabulous but for QR the fact that I didn't do much with it until the end, it's good enough for me. Let me also mention that I haven't taken any math in college.

Here's what I did:
When I started studying for the exam i did all of the kaplan practice exams and went over the math q's i got wrong brieftly. I don't remember my scores, but I thikn it was between 16-20 each test. Then I left math alone for a month and a half. a few days before the exam i pulled out the kaplan subject tests and times myself and then went over the answers, obviously learning the concepts. (i think i didn't do 2 of the tests)

I think the KEY with QR really is knowing when to skip and then coming back to those problems. Practice that over the next few days. Again, I didn't have any conversions, but I hear other ppl do =/

You'll be fine. Just practice and don't get nervous!

Good Luck!

Hahaha.

Sorry I cannot help. I sucked it up. But, it has nothing to do with how smart you are or your math background. Its just how fast you work and apparently I work slow.
