Hey guys,
I was wondering if 4 months is enough time to study for the DAT. I plan on self studying during school as well as taking a Kaplan prep course. Also, during my winter break (December) study hardcore and take the test during the first week of January.
I wanted some feed back as well as what others have done to study in a rather short period of time.
Thanks,
Mike

I studied for around a month or 6 weeks and I was fine. depends on YOU.

I had a full 4 years of college before taking mine, and understood a lot of general concepts. I reviewed Kaplan book for a month and took the topscore practice exams.

But again, it depends on where you are at now, and how much you need to review.

4 months should be plenty of time.

Also, try using the search function, there is a lot of information on this website.

I agree with nova. Four months is most likely plenty of time to study in preparation, but then again it depends on the person. I am taking my DAT next Saturday, and I started studying in June. Three months. As I am going through it, I feel very comfortable on all the science topics. I really do not think i can go over anything else, other than a quick glance over/mind refresher. In this last week i really want to drive home math, practice some rc, and solidify the PAT with crack dat. I have done everything from reading destroyer(multiple times) to the point of full comprehension, cliffs ap bio, prep classes, CDP, and a little topscore here and there. I know i am ok, but i still feel a little uncomfortable like im not ready. maybe that helps u so you can base your timeline in reference to mine.
my question to you is why rush the dat? if you plan to take the exam in january, i believe you have missed the enrollment for 2009. if you plan to apply for 2010, you have plenty of time to study and take the dat. know what im saying? you can get your app in reallll early for 2010, and take the dat at the end of the summer, and have your scores sent in that day.
when do you plan on enrolling is pretty much what im asking

i studied for 6 weeks and i felt that was enough time to cover all the material. however, i didn't have to attend school and i had all day to study. try to make a schedule and stick with it!

Yeah we all study differently, I took a little over a month, 6 weeks perhaps, that sounds about right, no summer school, I did my AADSAS and studied for the DAT at the same time. AADSAS took quite a while, maybe I studied for a month?

Anyway its up to you, 4 months to me sounds like a super long time, much to long, but it depends on how you use your time, if its used well you can get some amazing scores, if you keep putting off studying because you have months to go then your scores will reflect it.

Good luck!

Im in an acceleated dental program and UOP and have decided to apply early this summer. I just wanted to have multiple opportunities to take the DAT before my application process june 1st. Also, im a second year and i just completed Ochem and my other gen bio/chem course last year....so i want to take the DAT when all the subject material is fresh on my mind.

What do you mean? Are you in Dental program? as a dental student at UoP? or are you working at UoP? What I hear from others that UoP encourages to applicants to apply early as possible,1st June. If your top choice of dental school is UoP then you should follow your plan.

I think he is an undergrad at UoP. To get into UoP dental, I think the OP needs to score high enough on the DAT and can take it more than once.

yah im a 2nd year UOP pre-dental undergrad

any longer than 6 weeks would be a waste for me personally as I would forget the details of the material from the earlier weeks and have to go back over it again. good luck
