Haven't started yet, but good luck with that schedule. I'm freaked out though because I feel like I know absolutely nothing.

I am starting on MICU as well, then night float, then CCU followed by cards consult. I don't even start general wards until late Oct. I have met my upper levels and they seem pretty calm so I think my MICU month won't be as bad as I think. I hope I can be signed off on several procedures after I finish the MICU.

I start in the wards..for months and months 🙄

Dont worry, you wont be left alone. Relax. Thats what they have told me 😳

hey all....good to see (albeit in an odd way) that there are others who are in a similar boat as I am...I have heard from some people that the first thing I should do is to become VERY GOOD FRIENDS with the nursing staff  😍 😍 😀 in the units since they have the most idea of what is going on and what to do (often since a physician is usually not there at all times)....

anyways, I guess no one has started their internship yet? I thought that some places start a little earlier than others....don't some of them start the 3rd week of june...

so, no interesting stories, huh?

I start in the ER...I heard this can be good and bad..but I did do an ER elective, so maybe it wont be so bad! I just hope nobody has a stroke , MI or chest pain on July 1st. Hmmm, how can I arrange that? 😀

Strange. At graduation, everyone I talked to started at least a week before I do. Some started on the 12th. I guess they're all too busy to answer our questions.

I just finished my internship at Mayo. I started in the MICU. I remember being very worried. Some advice would include:
1. trust in those who have been through it before (senior residents, nurses).

2. You know more than you think. You have most of the knowledge needed to take care of your patients. What you don't know you will learn and the learning curve is very steep.

3. Work hard, internship is about working hard, being there early, staying late, knowing your patients well, knowing what questions to ask, knowing the answers that will be asked (what was the K, pH, VITALS etc).

4. Take advantage of your free time, there is not much of it. That includes the time you have before internship starts, have fun and enjoy yourself, do not worry about ACLS it will be a breaze even if you have not memorized the protocals.

Crap. I bought 3 different ACLS books to study before the course. 🙂

Those are the ones you want (at least stroke and MI). Tend to be cookbook ER workups. Chest pain can be a doosie, though.

DB,

At least it's something you're familiar with, no? I start with leuks, then CCU, gen medicine, pulmonary, GI.... If nothing else, I'll be comfortable with really sick folk by Christmas.... The prospect is exciting, but scary as hell.

all right ladies ans gentlemen....about to start my internship in about 7 hours AND I AM SCARED S***LESS!!!!!!! 🙂 😱 :scared: :scared: :scared:

Oh well...gotta take it all with a grain of salt, right? Nothing more than I can do now to reverse time....BTW....SUDDENTLY AM MISSING BEING A MED STUDENT!!!...anyways...will let you guys know about my experiences tomorrow evening...BTW...I am onm call on Sunday, the second day of intenship and I will be covering 2 FREAKIN' FLOORS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep the experiences comin'!!!!!!!!1 Maybe it'll relieve some of the pressure from the rest who have not started yet!!!

hope everyone has survived their 1st day....just got done w/ day #1 in the icu and am already starting to count down the end of the month...the attending is a pompous, sarcastic jerk and i'm dreading rounds tomorrow...maybe one day, i'll look back and laugh at how freaked out i was my first day of internship, but that day seems so far away. for now, i cant imagine being feeling anything but scared and stupid. my 4th yr was one big vacation that i now feel like a 3rd yr med student in a long white coat :scared: i have fantasies about donning my lil short white coat and playing med student!

oh well such has been my experience so far. the other interns on my team seem so much more pulled together than me, and talk about how this is gonna be a fun experience...and they werent being in the least bit sarcastic...now, that's scary.

here's to hoping me and my patients make it thru this month. :luck:

JUst got time to write about my experience,as I am typing this I am looking into what other field i can go into next year coz my first few days have been miserable and I am strongly thinking of leaving this field and doing some non medical related field!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙁 this just goes to show you how bad it has been, all other interns are fast and good and I feel so insecure and like an idiot,The resident in charge of us(the interns)makes me feel like i AM STUPID AND DONT KNOW ANYTHING(maybe the resident is right, maybe i am not good enough, MAYBE TOOK THE WRONG FIELD)maybe I have a problem and should just stop going to work.Everyday in the morning I debate as to whether I should go to work or not though I know it isnt fair to the other interns for me to do that.

anyway people say it will get better, hope it will coz I atleast want to finish one year so that I dont have legal issues when I leave the program,

I dont want to sound like a pessimistic person though ,though i am sure I already sound like that.

If i feel better in a couple of days, I will write a more optimistic note.if not i may be saying good bye to clinical medicine forever and will say hello to some other non stressful field..

good luck everyone 🙂
