I posted this in the pre-dent forum too. Basically, my question is if I apply to dental school and am a few classes short of my BS, will this drastically affect my chances? The reason I ask is because when I plan on attending dental school I will be about 4 classes short of my BS. If you have an interview and are accepted, do dental schools make you sign something stating that you will have your degree by the time dental school starts? If they accept you assuming that you'll have your BS and you end up a few classes short, will this affect your standing at the school? Thanks.

Depends what dental schools you apply and get accept to. Although most dental schools do not require a bachelor's degree for you to apply, but more and more are moving in the direction where their preference is to have their matriculants to have one.

Another point, most applicants do have a bachelor's degree by the time they matriculate into their dental program. Is short, it all depend on your dental school that you get accepted to. Contact your dental school(s) and find out.

Most "conditional acceptances" only require you to maintain a passing grade (C) in those courses that you are still enrolled in prior to your first Fall semester of dental education.

Again, BE ALERT! Some dental schools do look heavily on a bachelor's degree from their applicants. Good luck.

Most schools go by what you put on your AADSAS application.

If you list that you are a degree-seeking student, then 99% of schools will expect you to have the degree prior to matriculation.

Schools I got accepted to told me that I could not matriculate unless I had 1) completed the pre-req classes and 2) obtained the degree.

I had to obtain the degree simply because my AADSAS application said I was going to earn a degree.

Many schools might also question why you wouldn't go ahead and take the 4 remaining classes to get your BS. That wouldn't be a question for all of them, but I'm sure many of them would pose it.

After all, you've come so far and done so much, why wouldn't you take the remaining 4 measly classes?

I have no problem taking those classes...but it does put me one year behind what I had originally planned, which, in the long term scheme of things, doesn't matter. I was thinking of applying before I get my degree and if I am accepted great, if not, then finish the four classes for the BS and apply for the next year. What do you guys think?

you got it brother... study away!

raidernation,

I am not sure if this is clear so i'll mention this. You don't have to have your prereqs and bach done when you apply. You just have to get them done before starting d school itself.

Thought I let you know that if you didn't know.

good luck
