Hello all.

I personally hate SDN. If you ask me, it's full of pretentious dinguses and innocent hopefuls, with a few honest people in-between. Why do I say that? Oh! Well let me explain!

I have spent a better half of my life wanting to do something in the medical field. Long-story short, it took me 3 years to arrive to pharmacy school after college. And boy was I disappointed. College challenged me in a simulating manner. Pharmacy school? Not at all. The professors were extremely judgmental, everything was a powerpoint, and no one prepared me for what lay beyond graduation. Let me be the first to state that my experience is not similar to that of everyone that has attended pharmacy school.

Some of you will be ignorant enough to assume that I'm blaming this totally on my school - no, I'm not. But they had a significant part in my struggle. I had my own issues I had to work though, but ultimately, your school should be able to support you. My school seemed much more interested in participating in a teacher's-pet culture. During my time in pharmacy school I did not open a single book (I memorized powerpoints), all but one of my tests was on a computer, nor did I feel as though a majority of my professors cared about my well-being.

Anyways, I'm here not to bitch about my school (so far I feel like that's all I've done). I'm here to hopefully give anyone, maybe someone, some hope to KEEP TRYING.

I failed the NAPLEX on three separate occasions. The first, I was woefully unprepared. The second, a little more prepared, and the third, so close to passing I probably missed it by a question or two. To be painfully specific:

Attempt #1: 55
Attempt #2: 65
Attempt #3: 73
Attempt #4: PASS

Why did I fail? My school, myself, and circumstance. My school didn't offer a prep-course for the NAPLEX during my 4th year, I wasn't a top student (I was disenfranchised after my first year), and after I graduated, I worked way too much for me to be able to appropriately study for the NAPLEX.

Anyways, despite all the problems that face our profession (just to name the few that apply to new-grads like me) like the NABP making the licensing exam more difficult than the entrance exam, or allowing almost anyone to open a pharmacy school (if they pay a fee), and despite the dinguses that spew elitist bull**** on SDN about "if you don't pass X number of times, you should do something else"...I passed. And you can too.

Don't give up. You've got 5 try's in most states. And if you're lucky enough to be in a state that isn't filled with self-centered elitist dingus board-members, maybe even more than 5 times. I say that because in my home state I wouldn't have been allowed to take the NAPLEX a 4th time. They have stated that you would have to take and pass the NAPLEX in a different state to get allow reciprocity to my home state. Did that board member take the same test as I did? I seriously doubt it. Yet he/she thinks they are able to judge me (and/or) you bc they took and passed the NAPLEX at some point in time.

Study every day. Study multiple times every day. Memorize things that you don't think are worth memorizing. And believe in yourself.

I did it. But I sacrificed a lot. I gave up my intern license so I could become a tech and make some money while I waited to take the NAPLEX a fourth time. Honor? Psh, that is for the people that think they're better than everyone else. I gave that up a while ago. Don't work too much. For me, working 40 hours a week was WAYYYYYYY too much. If you want my opinion, work less than 18 hours a week if you've graduated and you're studying for the NAPLEX. And on the days you do work, study.

Good luck, and God-speed.

PS - If you're wondering what school I'm alluding to, it's Mercer. I have no problem telling you to avoid it at all costs.

PPS - This is a one-and-done account. Reply if you want, but I hope you reply to encourage others. Either way, I'm not going to look at this thread again nor am I going to log into this account again.
