Sorry I just had to vent. I started researching/applying for elective last December and I still DON"T HAVE ANY ROTATIONS!!! Okay, I have one set up for October, but July is being impossible to schedule! I had a prelim spot and then they told me it was full...but they didn't address the other three choices I had given them... :scared: With July only 2.5 weeks away I'm getting scared! And of course, our school doesn't give us any help, hints, etc... for anything.

Is anyone else having trouble (I'm trying to do visiting electives since I want to get the heck away from my home base for a while, or at least for hurricane season). 🙁

Thanks for letting me vent, I hope everyone is having an easier time than me.

Burnt out third year,

1. Limit your time on SDN until the situation is better managed. These next months are important. DO NOT blow this off.

2. Call this particular hospital and ask for anything you are interested in. If the hospital is continually vague, consider that a "no" and get looking for something else.

3. Contact any other hospital in the area you want to go (hopefully these choices have something in common with where you would like to be for residency or your chosen field), as these months tend to be important.

4. Call your base hospital and try to get something set up for July, at this point, anything you can get. An ICU rotation is invaluable and at most programs, only 4th years qulaify.

5. Take your boards if you school will let you and call July a wash.

6. Once the July crisis is averted, get on the phone and call the programs you have been contacting since December and GET AN ANSWER about your requests. Most programs take applications in the spring and you find out 3-4 months ahead. Contact them and mention "gotta find housing, etc...am I in?"

7. A boat without a paddle goes nowhere. Pick it up and start rowing. You still have enough time to put together a meanignful 4th year. But the time to start is NOW.
