I'm still trying to get more info on fourth year in Pod school and how much travelling is involved. Similar/different than med school? Any takers?

Even just some basic info on what the 3rd and 4th years are like?

4th year clerkships are electives that you apply for; if you are a good student, you can go to basically whichever locations/hospitals you choose. If you run a search, there are threads on this.

I called two of the schools and talked awhile about this very topic. I'm about to get married, and I wanted to know how long I would be away that year since we have no idea if there will be kiddies running around by that point. What they said was that you choose four hospitals from a hundred-something to do your month-long externships. You can choose all four in the same state or you can go anywhere in the country. So if you can't travel, you can choose hospitals in whatever area you want to stay in, but I suspect that each school has different affiliations with hospitals, so what you should do is call the school you want to go to and ask them if they have hospitals in whatever area you want to be in.

The fourth year structure varies by school. It is true you can choose and apply to where you want to go ..... they can be all in the same city to all over the US as said before. The fourth year externships are also a way to get a look at residencies your interested in ( for example som residencies will only consider applicants whom have externed there and other) and to get some great experience in a specific area ... its all based on your motivation and whether or not your willing to travel and can afford it ...... for example the school im at you have 5 months where you extern at wherever you want with one specifically private practice and two specifically hospital based, the other 6 months are spent at the school and surrounding clinics and hospitals as assigned ..... i hope this helps ..
