Hey everyone,

I am going to start medical school in NY this year and I know it's early to think about 4th year but I had a question. If I wanted to do a residency out in CA is it possible to do your 4th year that far away from your institution?

Most schools let you do a certain number of months (~2-4) at other institutions

You can. Keep in mind (way back in the recesses of your mind) that you'll have to pay your own way at your away rotation though. Some people get around this by staying with family, and others rent out their rooms while they're away to make up the cost difference. But it's something to consider.

You can do away rotations however far away from your home institution as you like, as long as they accept you when you're a 4th year.
