In danger of failing my 4th year Urology rotation, got basically pulled aside today and told that I lacked initiative and the 3rd year students were outperforming me by a longshot. He told me if the rotation ended today I would fail. I have one week left on this rotation. I've been on many residency interviews this month and can see where he may be coming from as I haven't had much time to read and frequently miss the pimping questions. However, I am respectful and show willingness to learn. If I do end up failing will residency programs know about this prior to match?

Mercy, beg him for anything you can do so he feels able to pass you. Say you will come in this weekend, you will stay all night, anything. Make it clear that you are very motivated not to fail and that you are very willing to respond to feedback.

The good thing is if he is telling you this now he is basically giving you a chance. Take it, show up early preround on everyone. Look up the pimping questions from the day before. Grind! Sorry this is happening, but control what you can.

It really sounds like you took to many days off tho, so I wouldn't miss anymore. Also if he has any reading he wants you to do, I don't care how much sleep you miss, you need to do it, and then tell him in the morning what you learned tonight.

I don't know if schools will reported updated grades before match, but if you enter the match indicating you can start on time and you can't because you're remediating/graduating late, you'll be in a world of hurt. Come early, leave late, study a lot, don't miss any more days, do whatever you need to do to pass.

But you don’t actually show a willingness to learn because you haven’t been do the required reading to meet their definition of learning.

It probably hurt to be called out but you were coasting. Stop that and you will be better off
