Hello, I posted back in January that I was looking to get some advice on which schools to apply to, and where I stand (which schools I would be competitive at and such.) (NYS Resident)

  • Cumulative GPA - 3.98
  • Science GPA - 4.0 (Major in Biology-Honors
  • NY
  • Caucasian
  • Undergraduate institution or category: Private
  • Research experience and productivity - lab manager doing research on cancer
  • Shadowing experience and specialties represented - shadowed radiologist approximately 200 hours
  • Clinical Volunteering - Emergency Room (minimum 200 hours)
  • Non-clinical volunteering - delivering food for the poor approximately 200 hours
  • Other extracurricular activities - executive editor of School Science Journal, member of Political Science committee
  • Relevant honors or awards - Deans List every semester
  • Tutoring in chem and physics

I'm a bit worried about my CARS score (125)

Based on the advice I received here, I added the clinical volunteering and created the following school list below. Please advise if I should add or remove any.

I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks!

I will be applying to a couple of DO schools as well, this is my MD school list:

I would really appreciate input from @gyngyn @Faha @LizzyM @Goro if you all have time, and anyone else who has advice.

You got a 125 on CARS, this will not affect your application (if you had below a 125, I would be concerned). Ignore it and apply to more schools inside your range i.e. Jefferson, Dartmouth, USC, Quinnapiac.

Add these school and don't bother with DO unless you are actually interested in getting a DO degree and prefer the osteopathic curriculum.

You should receive several interviews from your list. Rutgers accepts few non residents with no connection to the state.

I suggest the following:
U VA (maybe)
U MI (maybe)
Case
Mayo
U VM
U Toledo
USF Morsani
OH State
UCF
U Cincy
Miami
St. Louis
Albany
Albert Einstein
Rochester

EVMS
Wake Forest

Temple
Drexel
Creighton
Tulane
USC/Keck
Dartmouth
Seton Hall
MCW
Loyola
Emory
BU
Duke
