Congressional leadership is scheduled to adjourn the 109th Congress by the end of the week and they MUST PASS legislation to avert the 5% SGR payment cuts scheduled for 2007. House leaders have included "physician adjustment" in their list of possible legislation to be considered this week, but your help is needed to ensure final action! Contact Congress today and urge them to STOP THE CUTS!

Besides sending a letter to congress (takes seconds), try this. Cross-posting is not allowed on SDN forum site. So each of you could send a message to one of the other medical specialty sites on the SDN forum, and give them the following link, http://capwiz.com/ama/issues/alert/?alertid=8825691&type=CO , which will hopefully get more people to email congress about this issue. A 5% cut in revenue means much more to the bottom line, when overhead costs are 50% or more.

Thanks for the link - we definitely should all take 2 minutes and use the link to contact our reps. When representatives are contacted they usually assume that hundreds of others feel the same way - it really can make a difference.

Deal Moving Forward to Block Medicare Fee Cuts

Thank you for your help!

Dear Academy Members,

I would like to thank you for your vigorous support of our efforts to derail the SGR-driven Medicare fee cuts.

The U.S. House of Representatives has just voted to pass a legislative package that would halt the 5 percent cut physicians were scheduled to receive on Jan. 1, 2007. The Senate is expected to act on the package shortly. We will be sending you details when the voting is completed.

Regards,
H. Dunbar Hoskins, MD
Academy Executive Vice President
