Hey guys, I seldom post on this board but really appreciate the advice you give for USMLE, etc.

I am a third year (clerkship phase) student in a D.O. program who really wants to do anesthesiology, but I messed up my first year and had to split my first two years over three. My class rank is only 61/119 due to the bad grades first year. I took the comlex I (550) and USMLE I (222/90). So far I have A's in my gen surg and anesthesia rotations.

Do I still have a shot a decent university allopathic program? I know this a annoying question people ask, but I really don't know how this extra year in preclinical is going to affect me for the match.

Thanks for your help

Yes,

Just apply and do away rotations at a place you think you would like to go at. Don't put to much stock into your class rank. You will be fine. Just show the attendings there that you are willing to work hard and that you really want to be there. Take advantage of your electives. Hope this helps, but Anesthesia is not that competitive yet that you will be shut out of a good University program. Just relax and apply where you want. You will be fine. Hope this helps. Just ask if anymore questions.

I'd say that your chances are still good especially with your first Step score and if you can show a clear progression of your academic record, which seems to be the case. Still apply broadly, but I don't think you will have any problems getting into a program, although you may have a tough time getting into some more than others.
