I studied over 2 months(April-May), but I was already half-prepared because I took Canadian DAT in Feb
Biolgy - KBB, Alan's Notes, Destroyer, Barren's
I started with KBB and Barren's to cover the basics then went on Destroyer. Destroyer is way too detailed than I needed, but I learned alot from the answer keys mostly, and it helped me get use to randomness of the bio section. For Destroyer, I recommend concentrating on the answer keys, rather than actually trying to get the questions right. Alan's notes were extremely useful, because it concisely summarizes important points.
I found some tricky questions on the actual DAT biology, but overall, questions were much easier than the preparation materials I used.
Chemistry - KBB, Chad, Destroyer
I went over KBB once. Chad was very very helpful in solidifying the basics. I went over Destroyer twice. Like biology, destroyer was more difficult than the actual test, but it's really good practice. Also, when I did destroyer, I timed myself to get used to doing things fast. I found all three materials to be useful. The actual DAT was much easier because I had more concept questions than problem solving type question. Also, the actual DAT had MW's included in the question which saved me alot of time.
Organice Chem- My orgo chem class notes, Chad, Destroyer
I finished my orgo class three months ago, so I had didn't have to start from the scratch. Chad was very helpful in refreshing my memories. Destroyer again, I went over orgo section twice. It was more detailed than the actual test, but it helped me alot. I also timed myself when I was practicing.
QR - KBB, Chad, Destroyer
KBB and Chad complemented each other well I think. There are some things in KBB that Chad doesn't cover, and vice versa. Destroyer was also helpful. For me, time was the biggest challenge. My goal was to get 20 or more on this section, so I was very disappointed. Again, for the actual DAT, time management was my weakest point🙁 Make sure you time yourself for every practice question you do for this section. Also, make good use of your break.......I was too worn out from PAT and SCI and started having this headache when I started the RC and QR......
RC- Crack (10tests)
I really don't know what to say for this section. Crack was helpful, but the actual DAT had more technical, science related passages. Also, there were not many inference/assumption type questions. Most of the questions were about details of the passage. Also, the passage returns to the top page after I move on to new question, which was very annoying..My goal was to get 20+, so the result was disappointing 🙁
PAT- Crack (10 tests)
Crack is very very good. Even the screen format is very similar to actual DAT. Angle questions on Crack was more difficult than the actual DAT. Rest of the sections, I'd say where equally difficult.
Pactice tests I used - Barren, Topscore, Kaplan samples
Barren PAT is was way too easier and had many errors in them, so I don't recommend it to you, but the other sections were fairly similar to the actual DAT in terms of difficulty. I get mixed opinions on Topscore. Topscore is not very good for PAT (esp angle questions), but pretty useful for the other sections.
My GPA is not very high, considering I am Canadian. So I really hoped for DAT score of 23+ but I guess my expectations were too high .......T_T...........I am applying mostly to international friendly private schools
All my documents are sent right now, but some of them are not uploaded on to AADSAS yet....(I wonder how long it takes :s).
I am going to pay the schools and do the supplemental application starting tomorrow!
I might take DAT again in September, but I am not too sure yet........any suggestions??????😕😕
Good luck everybody!
