Having been recently accepted into Ohio State's COMPH, I wanted to look into their grading system. I looked at http://services.aamc.org/currdir/section1/grading1.cfm, and it says that the grading system for the basic sciences is a 6 interval one. How can you have 6 intervals? The AAMC website gives examples of 2, 3, 4, and 5 interval grading systems, but no mention of 6.

Anyone know exactly what that means? Please chime in if you are a current student at OSU and know how it works. Thanks!

Shiraz,

The South Carolina schools are 6 intervals as well. AAMC lists U. of SC as A,B+, B, C+, C, D, F.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Saturnine!

I should have done some research on the school's website before I even posted this. D'oh!

Anyway, that AAMC site seems to be wrong, at least in the cases of OSU and UK. They have UK's grading system listed as 2 interval; however, on the UK's Student Affairs website, it is quite different [http://www.mc.uky.edu/oaa/OAA/bulletin/bulletinsite/studaff_promo.htm].

The same goes for OSU - AAMC lists it as 6 interval, but in the Academic Affairs student handbook, it is closer to 4 interval [medicine.osu.edu/currentstudents/handbooks/student/2004_Academic_Affairs.pdf].

UK's bulletin is from 2003, and OSU's from 2004...but I don't think that they would have changed for this year.

Shiraz,

That's interesting. I found a similar discrepancy in AAMC's grading information. They list UIowa as 4 intervals when, on a student-led tour, I was told the system is 3 intervals. Who knows?

i'm all about the two intervals.... 6? College part deux, i don't think so.

Yeah, I am too. I got excited when I saw that OSU was S/U (i.e. P/F)...but then I saw the honors/letters addition. I would still much rather have that instead of the whole A/B/C/F/etc. system.
