6 year MD/DO with residency?

Are there any 6 year MD/DO with residency programs in the states?

Ummm...it's not exactly clear what you are asking.

Are you asking if there are medical degree-granting programs that are somehow "linked" to residencies that take 6 years to complete? (In which case my answer is: not that I know of.)

Or are you asking if there are 6 year programs that will grant you both the MD/DO degree? (In which case my answer is: not that I know of, and why would you want that?)

There are a few 3 year MD/DO linked to 3 year FP residency.

Yeah thats what I meant....sorry for the confusion. Could u list em for me?

I know LECOM has one--DO/FP residency in 6 years. Check the Family Medicine forum for the link.

NYMC has such a program for internal medicine. You do three years, then you start your intern year in IM at St. Vincents'.

Ummmm...I don't think ANY MD program offers an MD in years.

They don't. The fourth yr of medical school serves as your intern year in IM. After that "intern" year they graduate with the rest of their class but then start as second year residents.

Well, I'm pretty certain that program does not exist at NYMC.

And this certainty is founded on......?

I went to NYMC, graduated in 2001 and had friends in the aforementioned type of program. I even graduated with one guy who had just "finished" his intern year. It's funny, while we were all joyful and teary eyed about getting our MD's and starting residency, that dude looked tired as heck!

Mind you that was 5 years ago and there is a possiblity that the program no longer exists. For those who are interested though, I would contact the school and inquire about it. I will vouch though though that there was that program at the time. Speeding up the medical education process may be hepful, as you save a ton of debt and can start practicing/fellowship a year early.

Nardo

I think my school used to offer this in FP. However, I also think that it was cancelled because it was thought of as an unfair recruiting practice. I could be completely wrong about this, but I think I recall someone saying something to that effect.
