Whats going on guys,

I have been surfing SDN for quite some time. I have read a lot about the 4-yr programs in Ireland but haven't really come across any comments regarding the 6-yr. Currently I am at UCLA (sophomore) and have been thinking about just going to overseas med-school after completing this year. I know I should have applied out of high school, but thats life. Any comments on this idea or the overall 6-yr programs.

Thanks.

The 6 year program is the same as the five year program with one extra year first covering the relevent pre-med stuff you miss from not taking any undergrad science classes. You skip that year if you have any degree at all first. Even without a degree, I think you'd get into the 5 year program since you have some university science classes.

But nothing special to say about the 6 year program since the only difference is that first year.

Thanks for the info! BTW do people have a gap year after graduating from Irish medical schools (RCSI, UCD) before they start their residency. I know that most residencies start around July (?) and a lot depends on your USMLE but just wondering what some of you guys have experienced.

Thanks.

No Gap. You have about a 3 week break from end of final year to start of your residency I think. If you have your steps done then you can start a residency in the states or Canada right away. If you don't, then you can do an intern year in Ireland and try to get those finished up.
