I am taking the DAT tomorrow (July 14th) !!! Thank you so much SDN members for priceless advice and tips! 🙂

Thank you for the kind words, Bereno and Dulvadentist. =)

Dulvadentist: I tried not to think about and do the fun things I enjoyed...run, play games, youtube videos...you should too! Don't be nervous because the hard work will soon pay off! Good luck to you too!:luck:

Thanx buddy, I sure hope so lol... But I'm taking a half day, doing an all encompassing review and then off to bed early... My test is at 8:30 am what time do you take yours?

My results AA: 15, TS: 16, PAT: 20...???????? 🙁

Props for posting your scores, definitely get my respect. Good news: next time you'll know what its all about 😀👍
did your nerves get the best of you?

+1 for a good post!

Was the test harder than you expected? Nerves? Just don't beat yourself up too much... 🙁 I have confidence that you will do better next time! 👍

This is my 3rd attempt. As far as study tools, I would not recommend it because my score says it all.

The test is harder because of the timing and not knowing the exact answer right off the bat.

I do well in school but my DAT skills s***. I guess some people are smart that they know how to study right with the 20 and above scores.

But, thank you everyone for the kind words, I wasn't feeling well (my head was literally blank out) when I see the scores, but you guys are great with support! 😍

well.... I believe EVERYONE whos capable of earning a 3.2 or higher GPA in ANY college should be able to squeeze out a 19AA.

But challenge will be preparation. You need to tell us how / what you prepared with so we can actually help you out.

Thank you for your honest advice dentalWorks. Here are the following tools I used:

I studied Kaplan blue book (got it from Barnes and Noble). One of my friends took the Kaplan course, and lend me the Kaplan book.

I bought the Kaplan online practice tests, AP Cliff Notes Bio, AP Cliff Notes Chemistry.

I used Crack DAT PAT.

I reviewed the practice tests from Princeton Review book for GChem, and Orgo over and over until test day.

I studied on average 5-6 hours a day and have school full time.

I have a 3.4 science and 3.7 overall GPA. I do not understand why I give off my social life to study all I can to get into dental school...but it's not easy to achieve. The only section that is okay was the PAT.

there goes ur problem lol.... You used the best PAT resource (shows in your score) but didn't hit the right areas with others.

For the GC and Orgo, chads + destroyer... enough said.

For Bio, KBB + cliffs SHOULD be okay for a score of 19-20 in bio

For math, easy, math destroyer book (not DAT destroyer)

Use these resources, and I am 100% sure you will score better than any of your previous 3 attempts. You have a good GPA, those low DATs are such a hazard to your application, they discredit the GPA (makes it seem like u went to an easy college with easy professors)

Ya dont be discouraged. I did it today too and got AA19 and TS 19 which are not too hot (not too hot for this forum perhaps?) that 19 is still an 86 percentile!! Bio brought my TS down!! That was my first attempt and i was hoping for at least a 20 and i got a 19. Sgpa is 3.42 and cGpa is 3.4 🙂 Good luck

Kapdds keep your head up buddy... As for my self I'm sorry for the late reply but Im still in the grieving stage as I lick my wounds from this beast of a test... I got an 18AA 21pat and a 19TS... My test was horrible I was so nervous I could barely move the mouse around, not to mention the eraser they gave me looked just like a mouse that I constantly got mixed up with the real thing... But ya there goes three months of my life down the drain only for another three months ahead of me to come back with vengeance. Does anyone know if I take it in three months again will I be able to get my application out this cycle still?

yes! your scores aren't bad unless you have a really low GPA. If you've already submitted your application you just have to contact your schools to let them know you have a retake planned. but seriously... you scores seem OK. I'd schedule a retake and study more, but you might land interviews with your first attempt!

Buddy, For biology. Go buy datqvault. Go through it. If you still don't understand a subject go through schuams biology outlines. THEN go through destroyer.

GC.. All you really need is chad and his quizes along side a few ap chemistry books.

QR.. i have no advice for you. you are **** out of luck. I just cannot comprehend how anybody else isn't.

I feel people that actually studied for the sat(math section) and took it in the us have a HUGE advantage over everybody else.

It's basically high school math you know...

I honestly believe that math destroyer is all the practice that you need. The challenge lies in how fast you can process and do the problems rather than the difficulty.

Your scores are great. You will get in, it was a challenge, but you made it. I think we all took the same test that day. You SHOULD be relieved that you are going to get into dental school. Congrats. 👍

Kapdds I'm glad to see your back on track and going to give it another try 😉 as for me unfortunately I have a low GPA so I'm in diere need of a retake by hopefully after some more hard work a retake will get me in 😉 but as for same test were your RC passages about epithelial and mesenchymal cells, morals, and fungi?

kapDDS, like everyone else has already mentioned, chads videos and DAT destroyer should be the way to go. It is seriously ESSENTIAL and I've heard people dramatically improve their scores. You'll do fine, next time. Try to aim for an 18 AA!!

Duvaldentist,

Do you mind me asking how you studied for your DAT? Like what resources you used, how your study schedule was, and if your undergrad prepared you enough for the exam? I have a while before I take mine.... but I am a little worried. =(

Yes, those are the topics for RC except the epithelial topic, mine was different. I had bone fracture topic.

Maybe you should apply anyway and give it a shot. You never know, you might get in with that score! And then...if that doesn't work, retake. Seriously, even 1% chance counts.

From what I've learned from my friend that got into dental school, they look at the overall application, volunteer, dental experience, and your personal statement.

Best wishes!

I was very much in ur shoes...two of my dat tries were around 16/17 ts n AA..my next try was 22ts n 21 AA ...I'm not a great test taker either but I used everyone's advice on here
For gc really use chads videos n destroyer
For ochem again chads videos destroyer n the orgo book u have from college n I used the orgo only practice book that the destroyer company makes
For bio make Campbell ur reference ...whatever u don't understand fully go to it n read that section over. I used ap bio cliff ...took major notes n restudied those whenever I took a break (which doesn't feel as a Break either)...also get datqvault
For pat u are right on track with crack pat
Qr I would use the math destroyer

For everything prepare a schedule that works for n follow it religiously ...I finished reading n reviewing n watching chads videos the first month into it n
then for the next month n half I practiced my ass off...this will also help u with timing urself ...oh n i also used Kaplan online tests just to practice during the last month ...honestly u can do it but dedicate urself ...it's a pain in the ass test but u can do it! Goodluck n I hope I helped
