So, I haven't studied and I am not a good multiple choice taker. I have been studying and practiced alot I have been getting 19-21 on day qvault and boot camp . But for some reason I feel like I got the hardest version today?!!! 🙁 I graduated 3 years ago. I took a postbac and got 3.53 gpa graduate school medicine. My undergrad was terrible like 2.7.... But after three years and now this is my second time. Do I have a shot? I know its August already but should I take the DAT again in October? Idk what todo 🙁. I got a hard test things I have never seen before... And I ran out of time where I could've had more time for orgo and gen chem so upset. ImageUploadedBySDN Mobile1375313765.140314.jpg

can you write out the scores? we can't see them clearly

It seems you're pretty frazzled here. These scores are quite borderline and getting in will be a struggle. October is a late retake, but you may have no choice.

i took the test today as well...i wonder if we had the same test. not gonna talk bout that here tho

He missed the same amount of questions as everyone else that got a 17-18. More people, percentage-wise were able to get those scores on that particular test.
The ADA pre-weighs the test and how many questions a person can get wrong to get a certain score, from 1-30.

Say someone got a 20 on QR on one test and was in the 90th percentile for that particular test. This is compared to everyone who took this exact test. On the other hand, say another person got a 21 on QR and was in the 80th percentile. This would suggest that the second test was easier due to the higher number of people who received scores at or above 21.

Do either explanations make sense?

Yes it makes a lot more sense now,
But theres only one more thing I still dont understand. I get that he missed as many as someone else that got 17 in tha tparticular test did,
but in general he missed more than someone else with an easier test?
The reason he didnt get lower scores was because his test was harder?

In other words, someone with an easier test could have gotten a 15 if they had missed the same exact number of questions, because their test was deemed EASIER?

thanks for the info!

Percentiles can vary that much? The ADEA claims that they go through great pains to make sure all tests are equal in difficulty.

Plus i've heard that dental schools do not even receive percentile scores. Is this true?

It would probably be more like 5 percent for scores like that but yes they can. I've seen it plenty of times on this forum.

Correct they do not receive the percentiles.

I wish we would stop getting percentiles because it causes a lot of unnecessary confusion.

Here's the gist of it: Schools don't see your percentiles. However, you are gauged based on the difficulty of your particular problem set as compared to people with the same problem set. I think that the tests are all supposed to be roughly the same difficulty, but there will inherently be some variation there. The scaling--and the percentiles--account for this.

How is a 18 on reading comprehension a 37.5%? I would love to get at least a 18. lol Imagining that a 18, decent score for me is only 37.5%.. i wished I had that exam. Same along with the PAT, 19 is a only 62? I saw some other post a 19 on PAT was a 85%.
