Hello folks,
I have been lurking on the SDN without even getting a username for quite a while. Now that I took with the DAT, I feel like to post for the first time!

First of all, my scores:

BIO: 24
gchem: 27
Ochem: 29
PAT: 22
RC: 13 (WTF!!!)
QR: 20
AA :23
TS: 25

Guess what? FRAPPED!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I have to retake the whole test due to the 13 on the RC.
Trust me, if you get frapped, the RC will be hard.

The problem is, October will be too late.
I am even thinking of taking a year off and doing the whole thing again.
Without this RC score, I would have had a shot even for the Ivy league schools. My TS score all in vain.

As for the sciences, I wouldn't count on the destroyer too much. All you need from the destroyer is prolly the Ochem roadmap which is only few pages. Just get those few pages from your friend. Instead, study your textbooks, notes, Cliff's AP and Schaum.

Ah..back to study🙁🙁🙁

man o man tht really sucks... i feel your pain. i was also frapped and got 16. i had good AA and TS but didnt get in from any schools so waste of a year and more of DAT studying (hell)
and like this wasnt enough...we will most likely get piano version of the test next. every one who had frapp the first time got piano
aklsdfja;lsdf

btw schools usually have cut offs of 17 or 18 so you should contact the schools and ask them for advice

I would say still apply this year. It is just one section (though it is low) so you never know. How are your gpa and EC activities?

yeah your scores are amazing except for RC. i would say still apply this year. its true, you never know 🙂

what technique did you use for RC? and with frap, whats the best technique? would search and destroy not work for that passage?

That score is absolutely amazing! I feel so bad for you b/c of RC..... What went wrong? All of that hard work.... I would still apply and fax your score to every school with an explanation as to what happened and hope for the best.... Duplicating that score will be darn near impossible....

Why didn't you like the destroyer..i've been using it along with the other books and find the questions in the orgo section and gen chem to be quite challenging and covers alot.

Great scores other then RC. It seems like everyone is either getting that one bad score in RC or QR, piano and Frapp is waging war on many DAT takers this year! QR I think traditionally just sucks for people, including myself.

what the hell, is RC really this difficult? Why are people struggling.

I never thought this section was hard in practice tests or the real DAT but then again I didnt receive the piano or get Frapped! My real DAT did have loooonnnnggg passages though, almost every passage had 15 paragraphs. My second passage was on the spinal cord and it was beyond complex!

You killed the test except for RC, where you got a miserable score. Apparently it must be very difficult because you must have at least good english skills to be able to get a 25 TS average! Go ahead and apply man. Not everyone can get a 99.99th percentile on the sciences!

Definitely give schools some calls, those are awesome scores other than RC - but for many schools RC can be the make or break section on the test because they think the implications of that score are important. How did you do on your practice tests on RC?

OMG!!! This isn't fair! So, if one gets Frapped, there will be another monster RC section for the next DAT. How can a standardized test be like this?

Hm,..not sure what would be the best technique, but SAD won't work. I should have just blind guessed the whole thing. Seriously.

Honestly, you don't need the Destroyer for the Orgo and Chem. Kaplan is MORE THAN ENOUGH. Everything you will see is in Kaplan. As for Bio, Cliff's does the job.

I mean, destroyer is a decent supplementary book, but I just wouldn't rely on it too much. In fact, I don't think you need it if you study Kaplan and Cliff's Bio. But up to you.

hey congrats on other amazing score. Remember that RC score, like other sections can be improve if you put more time to practice on!
Next test, if you get piano, SKIPPED IT, DO IT LAST. I got piano first time, tried to fixated on that and not move on to the next passage got me 15 the first time.

I use Mcat verbal the second time, i think it helped me, also try to read scientific american everyday!

Gluck

Only retake if you get rejected from every school you apply to.

23 is well above the average for nearly every dental school.

If you had a 20 or 21, yeah, I'd suggest retaking, but RC be damned....a 23 is no joke and neither is a 25 ts.

I think the importance of the RC is being blown a bit out of proportion on these forums.

Some schools flat out say it is, but overall, what would the justification be?

I have heard from some people who claim that an adcom from dental school X said RC correlates with board exam scores, first year biomedical gpa, etc...

Well, here is the ADA DAT validity study, and I don't think the study supports those conclusions.

I know a kid who had scores like yours and had a 14 in the QR rather than RC. He got into every school he applied to and now goes to SBSDM. I would suggest calling all the schools and asking their opinion about it. It doesn't hurt to ask...

it's really a great score. sorry for the RC..

what is you advice when I see a FRAP question?
what was your other topics?

I agree completely. I've seen that validity study many times, and I think anyone with practically a 100th percentile overall score is going to do fine. I think when they look at the scores, they will most likely say, "wow, something obviously went wrong for RC" I think if you do have good communication skills in your interviews you will most likely get it.
