yay summer is finally here!! I did better than I expected, except for QR. I sucked with timing and ended up leaving a bunch unanswered. I never did any timed practice tests so I guess it came back to bite me.

PAT: 19
QR: 16 🙁
RC: 22
Bio: 19
GC: 21
OC: 26

TS: 21
AA: 21

Basically I just knew the kaplan blue book inside and out. I know a lot of people say that is not good enough, but I think it was. Sure there were specifics I didn't know, but the bio questions were so random I don't think it would have helped that much to read a whole textbook or do a ton of practice questions.

I've always been good at math so I didn't really study or practice QR. Big OOPS!!! How much do schools care about QR????

3.59gpa, 3.54science. Somehow my w/o gpa is much higher (3.7) ...do schools even care about that? I also have a big upward trend so maybe that helps...? And I did a 1 yr americorps gig at a nonprofit dental clinic so I have a good amt of experience.

I submitted my app on 6/15 to BU, Tufts, Temple, Columbia, Penn, Creighton, and Houston. Do you think I'll get in to any of them??? I'm thinking about adding VCU and Pacific but it's so freakin expensive... I'd really like to save the money if possible.

THANKS!!!! SDN has been a HUGE help with apps and studying!! 😀

Good job.
QR is least important section.
I think you will get in multiple places.
Your gpa matches your DAT which is good
Was the O-chem very straightforward? Anything complicated?

GOOD LUCK

What did you think about gchem and ochem, what would you say to go over and to know specifically thanks, nice scores btw youll be fine no one cares about QR haha

i would be curious to know how you studied for the OC? that is an excellent score. especially considering when you've never taken any timed tests. i don't know much about dental admissions but i think that 1yr americorps gig is a huge plus that really sets you apart from other applicants.

could you post your topscore or achiever scores?
GREAT JOP

Congratz. I wanted to see what method u used for RC, and what were your topics. How many tone questions did you have, and how did you practice for it.

thanks

Good job! I have been telling people the exact same thing.
Now enjoy the summer! 😀

Thanks guys! 🙂

I actually never used topscore, achiever, destroyer, crack, etc. I guess I am low maintenance (or just really cheap!!). I just did the practice test at the end of the blue book and on the ADA site, but I never scored them.

I thought the Ochem questions were VERY straightforward. Definitely nothing that was not in the blue book. There were lots of "what would be the product of this rxn" type questions. I honestly thought that I was least prepared for this section compared to bio and gchem. It's been 3 yrs since I took ochem and I just studyed kaplan. I didn't have time to memorize all the rxns, but I think I have a really good grasp on the overall concepts: oxidation, reduction, properties of esters, carboxylic acids, etc so I was able to make educated guesses on what products would form, etc.

I would say it's important to really understand acidity, basicity, and thus nucleophilic strength, leaving groups, effects of H bonds and polarity, activating/withdrawing groups, properties of carbonyl carbons, etc. I am trying to remember more but I think my brain is already blocking it out!!

Gchem wasn't too bad. Again I think kaplan was fine but it's the calculations that confuse me so it would have helped to do more practice questions for this. Definitely have a good understanding of equilibrium, solubility, acids/bases, gases and gas law.

I had a chem minor so I took 2 biochems and a spectroscopy class (in addition to gen chem and orgo) so maybe that's what helped me? Then again I was a bio major and that is the science section I did worst in!! lol who knows? Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Honestly all I did to prep for RC was do 2 of the practice readings in the blue book. I don't consider myself a great reader but the passages weren't too bad. 1 was on language, and the science were about genes and calcium. I ran out of time and left a few blank at the end so make sure to practice timing. Most of the questions were specifics- not many tones. I actually only remember 1 tone question but I think my mind is blocking it out...

I sort of developed my own strategy after the 1st passage which was to make a list of all the paragraph numbers and jot down one word to describe it. I found this a big help to locate things later.

I'm not trying to sound like I didn't study much. I've been "casually studying" ~10 hr/wk since march, and then hardcore the last 2 weeks (10 hr/day) but just science and pat. I don't think it's worth spending too much time studying for RC when you could be doing bio or something.

Oh and I spend about 30min every morning reading the cnn news- maybe this helped my reading comprehension! 🙂

Wtf are you going to need math in dental school for? Find the probability of grabbing a red marker when the surface area of a tooth = 10m^2/(2 x 10^5 - pi) and the tongue makes an angle of 30degrees with your face.

Nice scores. 👍

Nice scores indeed, you give me some confidence as im using kaplan for nearly 100% of my studying 🙂 thanks for the boost! You have great scores congrats!

you definitely need math to calculate amount money you will make each year.
