Besides having a beer and catching up on video games any suggestions for interesting ways to pass the time before school starts in August?

I have very little exposure to research so I thought about looking into that.

For me it's bittersweet that there is 7 months. Sweet cuz I absolutely hate my job, but bitter cuz it means that i have such little time left to chill with my friends. My plan is to work to get mo' money, get a ps3 and work on my mw3. Club and drink on the weekends too.

Am I the only one who got all excited that there were only 7 months left, only to count and be let down? Now to beginning of Aug = 8.5 months 🙁

Got another month of school before I'm off, so I'm counting from then.

Counting down the days until June. Plan on giving my notice at work soon and relaxing a few months before school starts.

Since I was fired on Friday, I'm trying to figure out what to do for 7ish months (LECOM starts in July)... Do I want to get a job?? Hmmm.... Take spanish classes?? Don't know don't know!!

Amen to the job...

Mo' money, Mo' gamin, Mo' clubin

Holy cow I didn't realize it was only 7 months at this point. I cannot wait for my last pre-medical-school semester is over in a month and I can relax

Do something that would make your family go "really? you're really doing that?"

Once you're out of school/leave your job you're completely free to do whatever you want for a couple months....take advantage.

My wife and I love to hike and camp...so we flew to Montana and backpacked from Glacier National Park up into the Canadian Rockies. Two weeks with nothing but a backpack and each other. Ridiculous experience, saw all sorts of wildlife, camped next to absolutely pristine glacier lakes that are so blue you'd think it was fake. We even ran into a bunch of people from Switzerland and ended up getting drunk and fly fishing with them while discussing why America is better than Europe (their words not mine..although I agree!) To top it all off, we got to see a Canadians vs Blackfoot Indians barfight!

Our families thought we were nuts but it was one of the best experiences of my life. And it wasn't expensive because my cheap ass slept in the woods most nights!

This post wasn't meant to be a brag but I guess as I started typing I got really excited about it, haha, sorry. But my point is, do your equivalent.

That does sound like one of the best experiences!

~8 more months to go, hopefully save enough money to quit my boring job, do some traveling or something more meaningful. Time flies.

I'm brushing up on my Spanish, catching up on some good new music, learning about some good TV shows I've been totally oblivious to during my graduate education, spending time with friends and family, etc. Oh, and making sure I exercise more regularly now.

Hah exercise. I've been wearing scrubs daily for work and the scrub pants are drawstring. The bad thing about drawstrings is that you don't realize increases in waist size as well.... Soooo after trying on some shorts and jeans I haven't worn in a while I now notice they don't fit 🙁

Aight, so goal of getting into med school = FINALLY complete. Next goal? Get the hell back in shape. The kicker? Trying to get in shape without cutting out beer completely haha

Agreed, I need to get in shape, but at this point the beer stays.

yea i don't understand. I plan on applying next year but won't finish all my courses until July before med school starts, would applying to LECOM not be logical for me, since I would be finishing my undergrad during the summer with a few electives I would need?

Can anyone add?

I have very little exposure to research so I thought about looking into that.

I took anatomy and physiology which were really helpful, but people that took a course in histology right before med school seemed to have the upper hand in the first semester.

Also, if you are lacking in any area like biochem, microbiology, or immunology then I would strongly recommend taking a course one or more of those. Remember you are already accepted to medical school so you don't have to kill these classes, but you really should get a solid base in them. Don't worry about grades now, just worry about understanding.

That is what I would suggest.

Don't think it's worth taking another 10k in debt for another semester.

I read a lot, I listen to an insane number of audiobooks, but mainly, I have decided to be the most epic hero in all of Skyrim.

And I work a lot.

Awww yea. I haven't even been doing the story. Too busy exploring and killing things.

I'm going to read as much as I can (for fun, that is), save up some $$ by continuing work til May or June, then travel for 1-2 months. AHHHH so excited.

I hear ya on the losing weight thing. I gained quite a bit of weight my junior year... and even more my senior year. I just didn't have any time to take care of myself. I only ate 1 meal a day (when I got home around 8-9pm) since I was never hungry at school. Didn't drink that much water... I felt miserable with my metabolism on the floor!

I've been exercising a lot recently and feel great. 8 months is plenty of time to lose some weight and get back to high school shape. I recommend getting into boxing. Such a great sport. Oh, and watch some Mike Tyson fights too... it'll pump you up like no other. The man was indeed "the baddest man on the planet".

I did some Muay Thai earlier this year for about 6 months. I had a blast. My instructor was a more dutch-style MT guy so we learned a lot of boxing techniques as well as kicking. The program kicked my ass and I lost >10lbs after a month or two without changing my eating habits. Definitely want to get into it again... I can't bring myself to run a mile, but I can do multiple 3-min rounds in the ring getting my ass kicked as well as kicking some ass myself.

Plus, I can't really think of anything more humbling than getting socked in the face and feeling dazed or as ufc calls it "rocked."

Looks like most of us have the same goal- get back in shape. I'm trying to run a 5K every day. I gained a bunch of weight junior and senior year, too. My other goal is to enjoy the next 7 months.

Maybe SDN should open up a weight loss support section.

This thread is now "Getting in shape for OMT lab" :hijacked:

picture somewhat related

Hahaha, yea the OMT lab is exactly what's motivating me to get in shape when the semester ends. Weather pending I like to take 2-3 hour bike rides while listening to audiobooks. My biggest problem right now is that when I'm at the library studying I look forward to taking breaks to have a snack, gotta find another reward. Perhaps I should take up smoking so I can look forward to smoke breaks.

👍👍, I haven't gotten in anywhere yet, but I will be doing the same once I pick up that game in a few weeks. I hope that it does not take over my life so much that I don't prepare for my upcoming interviews and end up bombing them, haha.

I told myself I'd wait to fully enjoy Skyrim until after the MCAT... which isn't til next summer... :scared:

I'll be staying with my family so I don't particularly need much money for the year but are there any interesting types jobs I should look into? Wish I had some EMT training.

1) Give O2 for everything.

2) Put pressure on bleeding

3) Hold someone's neck if they fell down to make sure they don't paralyze themselves.

4) If someone says they have chest pain, stick some nitro under their tongue.

BAM you're an EMT.

P.S. Don't drop the patient off the gurney.

I've never dropped a pt, but I have gotten to insert a King a couple of times. So much fun, especially when you steal it away from the firefighters. Here's to hoping for a trauma or a code this weekend:xf: (tomorrow is my monday)

For your sake, I'm truly hoping for someone else's misfortune.

Thanks I know it sounds really bad, but I'm a serious trauma junkie. I've gotten BS calls for the past couple of weeks and am hoping for a justified 911 call. Not that they haven't been feeling well for the past couple of days, and their nose is stuffed up (and I'm not joking people really call 911 for this) I also had someone call for a ride to a dr's appt that they had already missed

haha I'm not surprised at all. My aunt is guilty of one of these ridiculous calls. She heard her bed creak when she turned and called 911 because she thought someone was underneath her bed. The police then called my mom in the middle of the night since my aunt told the police my mom was her "gaurdian".

My aunt was 48 years old at the time, and my mom is 7 years younger than her.... :lame:
