So the next cycle is approaching, I'm wondering how I can best make myself a competitive applicant. I'm in a precarious situation with my academic past and I'm wondering how I can best minimize its impact and hopefully garner myself an acceptance.
Anyways, I was a late convert to the dental track and before that my undergraduate was marred by a period of illness followed by a period of uncertainty as to what I wanted to do. Basically I withdrew first semester junior year (6 W's) and went wandering, gathered myself two more W's and probably like 6 C's in computer science classes (and a D+ lmao fml), over like a bunch of random half-semesters. A big mess. Finally kicked it into high-gear, figured out what I wanted to do and am finishing out my neuroscience degree next semester. Overall it will have taken me six years from matriculation into undergrad to the time I will be graduating. A big mess, indeed.
Anyways, my GPA when I graduate will hopefully be:
oGPA: 3.46
sGPA: 3.42
bcpGPA: 3.89
I feel like this is competitive, so I'm not sure if a post-grad program will really help me. I'm just worried that they'll see the mess that is my transcript and use that as a reason to throw my application into the bin. If I apply this cycle and don't get in, I practically have wasted an entire year. I'm just not sure how I should utilize the remaining time and the gap year to improve my application, god forbid I don't get an acceptance.
