Hi everyone,

I just completed my first semester at my post bac program. I took General Chemistry, General Chem Lab, and Physics. I received an A in Lab, a C in General Chemistry and a B+ in physics.

I know, that C looks bad. To make matters worse, I had 3 W's on my transcript in undergrad about two years ago. Those 3 W's were science classes, one of which was general chemistry. I mentioned this in a previous post but I was making the transition to become a biology major but due to some external pressure, I removed them to focus and finish my accounting degree before pursuing pre-med (which I did, and am doing now.)

The C was 100% my fault. Somehow I thought I could do well without studying for the first exam. I was wrong.

Point is, I will accept no lower than an A from here on out because frankly, I underestimated this schoolwork which was dumb of me.

I work full time and I take evening classes. I believe I am considered nontraditional, but what I really need to hear is what the consequences are from this last semester, and what I can really do to explain this strategically because in all honesty, while I'm highly disappointed in myself, I'm also extremely glad I'm not letting it deter me from my goal of being a physician.

Explaining that is going to be rough, and you can't really do it with words. What you need to do is get straight A's from here on out, maybe retake gen chem (for AACOMAS grade replacement), and kill the MCAT. The worry is obviously going to be that you can't handle science classes. Since you know this, you have to do something about it. Straight A's is pretty much what you need to do. If you have what it takes, show them! Good luck.

What is your current overall GPA, and what is your science GPA (including the latest grades)? It is impossible to say how you stand without knowing how far behind you are (if at all). W's on the transcript and such will have to be explained, but if you have a competitive GPA and MCAT and EC's, explaining why you withdrew from the classes will be the easy part.

You're numbers don't look bad at all. Seriously, I've made a 4.0 for the last 75 credit hours to bring my GPA up to a whopping 2.95.

You can do the best case scenario. I don't want to sound like too much of a motivational speaker here, but seriously you can do it. You're not trying to run a 4 minute mile or swim the bearing strait. You're trying to make an A in classes that people make A's in all the time.

Just remember that ever class you take, people will make A's in. This is a very doable feat.

Don't worry! I am in the same boat, I took Bio I and A&P I this past semester, I got a C in Bio I Lecture and a D in Lab, obviously I am retaking the lab portion but in the state of Florida, if you get a C you can not retake the class, AT ALL, which sucks. You can do it though! =O) Just know you are not alone!

My wife said the same thing she got at 91.8 which at her school is a B there is no B+ or anything else. Her other class a 90.4 another B and then finally a A.

Blended to a whopping 3.33, so at her school a 86 or 91 looks exactly the same she is erked.
