Hi guys, based on my stats, what are my chances? What mcat score do I need to get into a US MD program?
-3.96 cGPA
- chemistry major
-California resident
-male Filipino (came to US as a child)
-fluent in two philippine dialects
-research for 2+ years to present (one publication)
-ER volunteer a little over 2 years to present
-presented at 3-4 research conferences (won some of the research competitions)
-SMDEP alumni
-honors program and recipient of a few scholarships and school awards
-part of several clubs
-played intramural basketball for 4 years
I'm not shooting for the higher ranked MD schools. I would be happy to get in anywhere in the US..
Any real feedback is appreciated. Thanks
30+ and you're in somewhere.

Without your MCAT score, it's hard to say. When will you be taking it?
As you know, it's very hard to get into Calif SOMs. You might want to include some midwest midtier privates.

Yeah I'll definitely be applying broadly out of state. I'm registered to take the mcat next month

Would I still get in somewhere if I get an mcat score less than 30?

Is Filipino considered to be a ORM?
Less than 30? Not likely in Calif unless your a URM...and maybe underprivileged.
How much below 30?
Do you expect to get less than a 30?
If you end up with a 29 or 30 and you're not a URM, then your chances at a Calif SOM would be lowish.

Probably assuming you apply intelligently.

University of Utah treats filipino applicants as URM. I strongly suggest you apply there.Filipinos are Asians so I am not a URM, but I live in an underserved community. I'm currently averaging on the high 20s in my practice mcats. With a score in the high 20s, I know my chances at a California school are slim, but what would my chances be at oos low to mid tier MD schools?

Thank you very much for this advice! I'll definitely apply there

Take a look at their LOR requirements before you spend money on the primary. They have very specific requirements.

Utah is known to be friendly to URMs so it was a school that I checked out for my own app.
