So one of the schools I previously attended gives -/+ grades such that an A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3 etc...

Does AMCAS rely on the GPA as calculated by your school or do they have their own system (will I have to enter each course and each grade received?)

Does AMCAS consider +/- grades or will they all be converted to 3.0/4.0???

Thanks

AMCAS uses the 3.7 3.3 3.0 system. You'll only get jipped if you have A+'s.

You enter each grade received and AMCAS calculates based on the grading system for that school.

AMCAS does include + and -.

AMCAS GRADE CONVERSION GUIDE

AMCAS has their own grading system. They work on the basis of A- equaling 3.7, B+ equaling 3.3, and so on. They don't really care about your GPA on transcripts. They just use your transcripts to verify your grades.

Thanks everyone,...especially for the link.
I appreciate it.

it's not necessarily B+ = 3.3. If you get a B+ at a school that uses A, B+, B, C+, C..., it's a 3.5

Oh, cheese and crust.. that stinks, the business with A+'s. What the heck am I supposed to do now? I say if an A- is going to be worth 3.7, an A+ should be worth 4.3!

Double standards... 👎

Not really, most schools give out 4.0's for A+'s from what I hear. I know a few schools will give out 4.3s, but they generally are the ones that dont care much about grade inflation anyway.

Look on the bright side....atleast there aren't triple standards. 😳

I think AB folks actually get screwed, especially if the grade schemes break down like those at my Uni.

(90-93+) for 99.9% of the classes = A. (90-88) = an AB for 99.9 % of the courses. The ABs in these systems are really A minuses compared to other unis grading.

AMCAS GRADE CONVERSION GUIDE
amcas uses your school's grading system to calculate your grades, but one thing they dont do is give you extra points for A+s like Cornell. (whew!)

Yeah, though even if they did, as long as they're consistent I would have no problem with it. But some schools are simply ABCDF and that might put those students at a disadvantage.
