Bunch of tbr questions
Hey guys... I have a whole list of questions from the TBR books. These are questions from the passages of the TBR biology and Organic chemistry sections (2009 editions).

My basic question is that I dont quite understand the logic of the answer given by TBR maybe ya'all can help me out with that... (I just want to make sure that I understand the answers correctly)

If you can explain even one question- thats cool... every bit can help!

wow. Go for one at a time dude. There are about 50 questions. Try typing out the concepts of one question and ask it. Then do #2, then #3... That way people that don't have the 2009 edition of BR can help you, and those that have the 2008 or before will know you are talking about the same thing.

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY Section 1
Questions: 31,41,85-91

31) Hydrogenation converts pi-bonds into sigma-bonds. Because the structures freely rotate when its all sigma bonds, they can interact with neighbor molecules more readily. This is what happens when the lipid bilayer contains saturated fats and loses its fluidity. The impact of the flexibility is that the melting point increases. BTW, is that question #31 in your book?

85) Amines are basic, thiols are acidic, alcohols are amphoteric, and esters are not really an acid or a base. I think you are expected to know that amines are basic.

88) Cl is an electron withdrawing group, so it pulls electron density away from the other end of the molecule and makes the molecule more acidic. The inductive effect is a mild effect, so the compound with the Cls is only slightly more acidic, so the pKa only goes down a little.

89) Seriously, or is just listed as part of the group and you didn't really look at the question? For a conjuagte pair, pKa + pKb = 14 in water.

The other questions in this section seem like they can be worked out with a second look.
