I am a History Major doing undergrad... I have taken several science courses and well

My GPA by the end of next semester will be 3.15 ish

but my science GPA is kinda beat up...

I have three options:

1. Dip out January (graduate) and go to the Caribbeans and finish Medical school there and transfer back to US

2. Finish Proper graduation by the end of next spring and apply for PostBacc and further apply for Medical School through that

3. Finish proper graduation by the end of next spring and apply for Caribbeans and go then (with a slightly better GPA perhaps 3.25 ish)

Which one should I choose? If I do how do you think my chances are????

PLEASE ANY HELP/CRITICISM IS APPRECIATED... THANK YOU

Your post is pretty unclear. Have you taken all the prereqs? The MCAT? If so, I'm of the opinion that you should never settle for Caribbean if you can get into a US MD/DO school within 2-3 years. Your GPA is subaverage, but not terrible; with some extra courses you could pull it up to something that would give you a shot. Obviously, a lot will depend on your MCAT scores and your extracurriculars.

I agree...it depends on how many units you have taken..if you have not taken that many science classes and take subsequent ones and do well, you can improve your avg gpa faster and more drastic compared to a student who has a lot of science classes with a lower sci gpa..Also, look into taking a practice mcat to see where you stand in terms of standardized testing..however make sure you do take all the prereqs if you do indeed decide on taking the mcat.

I wouldn't recommend going to the caribbean for medical school, first because you might not be able to transfer to a medical school in the US and second that you might limit yourself in terms of your future endeavors.

Why ? I recently spoke with a director of a level 1 hospital (which shall be unnamed) and he/she mentioned that out of 1200 physicians employed by the institution none of them graduated from the caribbean.

I would recommend doing a post-bac or a SMP after taking the MCAT. To be competitive for a post-bac or a SMP you need at least a >30+ MCAT or close to it.

I have taken all the prereqs and well haven't done that good in them and funny thing is that I took upper level science classes after the prereqs (400 level) and did much better than the prereqs in them. I am about to take my MCATS in August/September and am hoping above 33 hopefully (god help me)... I have superb extracurriculars as I have held officer positions in almost 4-5 clubs... i have over 500 volunteer work hours at a hospital and i have 3 semesters of Research Work at University of Maryland Dental School. My recs includes 1 associate prof and 1 assistant prof at University of Maryland Medical School

Do you guys think I will have a sureshot at any PostBacc/SMP program with these credentials and if so any shot at medical school from there... I was looking into Tufts and Temple's PostBacc Progs which promises an interview upon B avg in your post bacc (think I have a shot there????)

again guys thank you very much for your responses and help

i have no idea what is meant here. Are you starting med school somewhere else and then finishing it in the "caribbeans"? Are you finishing med school in the "caribbeans" and then transferring back to the us for us med school or are you suggesting working here as a licensed doc after med school in the "caribbeans"...

very confusing
