I was wondering whether anyone has a success story they could share about being admitted to dschool with sub-20 DATs. Or even sub-X DATs, where X<20.

Thre's a lot going around about lower GPAs being outwieghed by other factors (which is great!), but I'm not sure there's yet been a thread for those who are on the lower end of the scale on DAT scores but stronger in other areas.

tks

If you have DAT scores 18s across the board, then your DAT is considered pretty good! Hundreds of matriculants of dental school have DAT scores below 20s each year. Although DAT averages of matriculated dental students are on a rise, but in general if you have a GPA above a 3.2 and 18s, you'll be fine getting in somewhere!

Andy is correct, but the key to everything he said is this: "you'll be fine getting in somewhere".

Unfortunately, sometimes little homework is done on schools and predents often apply where their friends are applying without looking at residency status, etc.

A 3.2 and 18s are scores good enough to get you into dental school--if you apply to the right schools. The "right schools" vary from person to person.

I think the reason you see "under 3.0 GPA club" and not "under 20 DAT club" is because the DAT can easily be retaken, while GPA is tough to change (after a fair amount of credits have been accumilated)

Why dont you just retake the DAT? With some practice I think a 20 is very attainable.
