With the vet school acceptance out of the way, I now turn to making employment decisions for the summer and I'm torn between getting a job vet clinic job that pays little or wait tables in an upscale restaurant where tips are good. Doing nothing is not an option, as I need to make some money for the fall and help my parents out.

So, anybody regret spending their last summer prior to vet school doing non-animal related stuff? I feel like I am turning my back on the profession for the almight dollar....but, I don't need to impress adcoms any longer and I do need mo' money.

Since I've never had a job that wasn't related to animals in one way or another, I think it might be fun to do something different.

What say you?

I think that you need to do what is financially more feasible for you. You will have the next 4 years to work with animals!!! 🙂

Being a waiter/waitress is fun too, at least I enjoyed it a long time ago! I also think it would be worth it to take a break from the old routine.

I am still workiing at my job with the Health Department. It pays too well for me to take off ffor the summer, plus I am on a panel that is putting on our annual Diseases in Nature Conference in June and I have to finish up a rabies vaccine research project.

I agree with Athane. GO WHERE THE MONEY IS!

I understand your point, but we all know that you need money for vet school! The more you make over the summer, the less you'll need in loans....even if it's only to pay books or a few months of rent.

I say do whichever will be more enjoyable for you!

Sort of along the same lines as the poster - Anyone have a suggestion for what I should do this summer for cash? It would be real nice to have some spending money for school and I am on the boarder of broke right now.

I probably won't work in the vet field, because jobs seem hard to come by these days and quite frankly they dont pay that well. Im smart, but have no skills. it should also be a job with a minimal time commitment, because I don't have that much free time between finishing classes and moving to phili.

Brainstorm with me.

V

ps. I hate looking for jobs.

IMO, if you feel that you need some more technical skills, now's the time to get them. If you feel like you are comfortable with your vet tech skills, then go do something to make money or something fun. no one will care what you do, its just going to be what is going to be most beneficial to you.

Brainstorming....max payoff + minimal time commitment =
1. professional escort
2. stripper
3. Blackjack player...ever see the movie "21"? Bunch of MIT students making big bucks utilizing their exceptional math skills!

I like where your head is at. I saw "21", I don't remember it that well, but Im pretty sure it didnt work out for them in the end. Plus, they went to MIT. Im smart, but not that smart.

hm...male stripping. I don't know if I have the proper "skill set", if you know what I mean (and I hope you do, because I really dont want to explain it).

😀 LOL...fortunately (or unfortunately) you'll have many fine establishments to choose from in philly

SHOW ME THE $MONEY$!

You have plenty of time for animal related interactions later. You'll be happier and less stressed with more cash in your pocket for those unexpected things that always seem to happen.
