Hi, I have a question regarding a failed mark on the transcript...

Anything below 50% is regarded as 'failed', which equals to a 0 gpa...
So If a person manages to repeat the course and get an 'A',
how are they averaged? Do dental schools average them according to gpa, or the percentile marks? For example, are 27% 35%, 47%, 49% all considered the same, since they are equivalent to 0 gpa?

If person A gets 45% (=F) the 1st time round, and gets 90% (=A) after repeating the course, while person B gets 30% (=F) the 1st time and gets 90% (=A) after repeating, are their (averaged) gpas the same in the end?

OR is person A's mark better, because percentile-wise, it's higher than person B's average?

Please help! Thank you.

Im pretty sure it depends onw hat school you are going to. Like for example Stony Brook (where I go) does not replace grades but averages together unfortunately. Other schools will replace with your highest grade. Also do you get averages or you get a grade (A,B etc)

So if I was you what I would do is find out what you school does when you retake a course.

So there ARE (dental) schools that replace a failed mark with higher mark after repeating the course? which school? 😱

And my question was whether or not a failed mark (anything below 50%) is considered the same when it is averaged with a mark obtained after repeating the course... like are 45% and 35% the same when they are averaged with an A, since they're both equivalent to 0 gpa?

Do you mean Stony Brook averages your grades as an undergraduate? Or for dental school admission? B/C my undergrad school takes the best score... but that doesnt matter because the AADSAS averages everything together. I guess i mean... do some dental schools take the best grade for repeated courses during the application process?

Yeah I am a sophmore undergrad at stony brook. I managed to somehow get a D in my chem class and I retook it and got a b+
I dont get a B+ on my transcript, I get a C+ or so. Which royally F*cks me over.
If AADSAS averages together than thats what I would go with since Dental Schools will be looking at your AADSAS mainly.
